1077 was used as material handeling car to transfer parts from Harmon to GCT. it was retired about 17 years ago due to frame bending and frame rot.
It was made into a material handeling car prior to 1983 (MNCR inception)

I seem to think that this car was converted to a garbage car during the
Penn Central years after the M-1's came on the line.

No the car was used twice a week to shuttle parts and brakeshoes and sand etc to GCT. it was not used for garbage.

I don't know its most recent use but during my time in New York, 1077
could be found on track 22 with garbage inside. This car has been in
"non revenue service" for a long time.

How many ACMUs are left on the poroperity?

Will there be any left in 06?

  by DutchRailnut

only about 8 cars as spare bracket cars to movce M1's.
wonder if the SPV's will be used as such as well.

Dutch, pardon my ignorance but what is a bracket car?

When the M1's are shipped to Ohio they need a non M1 cat between the freight train and the M1's to guard the compromise coupler on the M1's.
this car also gives better acces to a handbrake when the cars are left in somewhere.
currently two ACMU's are used and send back and forth to Ohio.
lateron the last ACMU's and possibly the SPV's will be used.

Here are the two ACMUs that now reside at the Danbury Railway Museum. I made this shot soon after their arrival. The near unit is 1171. I am not sure of the number on the other.

There was a tag like this in the control area of each of these units:

Nice photos. Now get that propulsion system re-enabled so we can go for rides!

Could anyone please recommend one or more locations to find data sheets and/or M-N or NYC drawings of the ACMU's?
