Re: B36-7 5884 lives!

the remaining 5800's have become fodder for work trains and fillin power. When the work train season is slow, they are used as needed for whatever needs power. Trust me, they are not popular with the crews. I'd just as happy to see them all retired. Sardines in a can seems like an appropriate expre...

Autorack traffic is getting very slim...at the rate things are going, I wouldn't be surprised if EBs here on the Water Level Route get down to just Q264 (Cleveland-Framingham [it hosts UPS traffic on the head-end, so you won't see this one go]) and Q268 (Louisville-Somewhere In NJ [too lazy to go lo...

The only thing on this stretch is the occasional WNY&P local to the B&P interchange in Driftwood.

Crawling? The past several times I've been down there, they've been doing 20-25 MPH...slower than normal, yes, but not a "snail's pace".

i heard something about amtrak the other day on the southerntier line of NS, channel 161.070. does amtrak run that line too? or was i hearing things. Keep in mind that 161.070 is an old Conrail channel, and it's in use in more places than just the Southern Tier Line. You may very well have heard th...

Re: UP Power on Riverline in NJ

Hell, up here in Rochester, I see a UP consist pretty much every time I go out. I I had to estimate, I'd say maybe 4-5 trains come through here every day with solid sets of UP power. Many of these terminate at Selkirk, and it's not uncommon for them to go South on the River Line.

I take it you're talking about the part East of Binghamton? There's plenty of traffic West of Binghamton on this line.

Last I knew, it was around Noon to 2 PM, sometimes as early as 10 AM. I usually hang out over on Park Ave. and wait until I hear a horn.

Noon? That's a stretch...maybe if they skip Foster Brook, which is a rarity. Heck, last time I chased them, they worked Mount Jewett too...not to mention their 6 MPH ascent of the grade south of Bradford. Nevertheless, they do arrive in Johnsonburg in daylight, and I also highly recommend this chase!

H0Q sounds right (and looks to be the best choice)...they were heading down the Bison Runner, as there was an EB waiting on the Howard Runner that just came across International Bridge, so H1N is eliminated from the scenario. Thanks for the help guys!

Hey guys, I'm going through some older shots I've taken, and came across a shot I don't have a symbol marked down for (just want it for my notes for future reference at a slide show or whatever). Shot at approximately 1745 at CP-PANAMA, heading West down the Bison Runner. Taken on 8/8/08, with a lon...

It's not a Railcom antenna...it's a DPD Productions vertical outdoor omni antenna (http://www.dpdproductions.com/page_traintenna.html#ttout). While it is a great antenna, the coaxial cable (LMR400) is equally important, and the receiver (Icom 2200H) is even more important. The biggest factor is that...

The feed is coming from a radio about 2' from the computer I'm typing this on (right here in Hamlin, Les). The radio does quite well - being so close to the lake, CN and CP are usually booming, especially at night. When the conditions get good, reception can get ridiculous - I was hearing trains cal...
