Seems like it would be fun. How much time does it usually take to get everything in place? I've never actually been able to get over there to watch everything happening. Have there ever been crews that outlawed while spotting the circus train? lol

As far as I know, all LIRR crews are always qualified on all branches... even GC

Monday, March 13. If delayed, train will arrive Tuesday, same time.

Here's the schedule.

11:00 AM Circus train arrives Harold through Line 1
11:20 AM LIRR Couples 3 1500 Engines
12:00 NOON Train proceeds to Garden City Secondary with engine chasing to protect and inspect for damage
1:00 PM Train arrives Garden Mitchell Secondary
1:10 PM 35 coaches pulled clear of Clinton Avenue and engines run around, train to be drilled out.

Please don't ruin it by being obnoxious, fighting with the MTA cops, getting in the way, acting foolish like know-it-all-railfans, doing things that appear to be dangerous, etc.

Here you go Enjoy. I had to do a lot of compression because it was very large (dv) but it still came out ok maybe you will see yourself. If you listen closely near the end you can hear the Tigers getting restless.

By any chance, will the Harold to GCS run via mainline or lower Montauk?

Thanks for the info. Clem! I think the train usually runs via. the main line, also it has Amtrak power through the tunnel.

The Main Line. Remember the year the carbon from the engines set half of Forest Hills on fire and burned a dormitory car to the floor?

When was this? Like, what year?

Clem, you are AWESOME! Thank you for that. Fortunately for you, Monday is a full day for me, so I won't be there. Only one you gotta worry about is 7285, hehe.

I'll try to go to the fake Mineola bridge(Glendale) to see the circus train going into the city.

I recall the details well.

There were a bunch of engines that spent most of their recient life idleing without a load. They were called upon that March day to haul the 40+ circus cars from Harold. They did so, setting plumes and balls of burning carbon among the dried weeds from Harold to Jamaica.

The NYFD was essentially following the train and extinguishing the descimated brush as Extra 1 lumbered along spitting out these flaming balls of crap.

Somewhere around Forest Hills some clown materialized in the lead engine to report that the canvas roof of a long-past-its-useful-age heavyweight compartment Pullman was on fire.

Certainly no even slightly experienced supervisor would tie up the railroad by stopping on the Main Line to put out a fire, so onward we went, the 25 MPH breeze fanning the canvas-and-tar-fed-flames.

The NYFD was waiting on Track 8 in Jamaica, so the circus train was craftfully routed through the old 10 Station Track, hidden from the station by a string of M-1's on Nine. To those awaiting their Huntington train, the passing black smoke was the closest thing to a G-5 they would ever see.

Finally, in the clear at Queens it went, with the fire department finally attending to what was by then not much left of the former Pullman but dripping tar, gin bottles, porno magazines and angry clowns with few teeth.

Of course there's more to the story, like watering the elephants, and the journey down the Secondary. But lets save that one for another day.

The supervisor who insisted that this conflagration continue on its way is still with us, so we'll resist naming him. He's one of the good guys.

And no clown ever looked the same to him after that.
