The remains of the connection can be seen in the right side (eastbound) tunnel between Flatbush Terminal and Nostrand just before it goes above ground to the viaduct at Nostrand. Here is a clip from one of the Viddler Cab Ride videos a few years back. Yeah I know, i'ts a lousy clip but the branch of...

Thanks to all. The bridge is in as described by the folks who know and the speed limit to the sands of Rockaway Beach over the old wood trestle is set to 40 mph passenger and 25 mph freight. The freight speed is a guess and will stand unless corrected. I understand the RR did haul coal but not via t...

Thanks for the speed answer Backshop. I was going to set it 45 if I couldn't get a reading and 40 will do fine. I'll let the question lay a while longer giving some of the older folks time to chime in. I get a LOT of good info from LIRR retirees, without which this project would not have been possib...

The route is designed to run on the new freeware community developed Open Rails http://openrails.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; The new simulator is under constant development from suggestions by members of the train simming community. IOW, it's not a commercial sim an...

The photo maps go back to '66 and I see Jericho is 2 travel lanes each direction center island and 2 parking lanes, total 6. Okay! Perfect. I'll snap in the needed length bridge sections, add the needed longer track and third rails and will be good to go tonight. Mineola1966 LIRRXJericho.jpg regards...

HI Folks, I'm building the Oyster Bay Branch north from Mineola. I can usualy complete about a mile a day, less in crowded urban areas (which Mineola is). Today the line crosses over the bridge what looks to be (in Google) six traffic lanes of Jericho Tpk. Pretty sure it was a bridge ( not grade xin...

Yes, thank you! I am looking forward to this sim route. Thank you for the kind words gentelmen. Lets see how long, - and I do plan on at least a 4 hour edit most days _ it going to take to complete the Oyster Bay Branch. Speculating now . . .
Possibly for ease of scheduling? Moving the meets west would allow more trains to run from completion of the first 2T segment (block?). Availability of sufficient power?

I wonder if T-Boning and totaling a semi qualify for NTSB under material damage? Does damage to trackside equipment (gates/ect.) count? Thankfully no loss of life that forces a NTSB look. It's just that I consider the reports 'school' on safe rr operation and good reading. I'm building the LIRR so I...

As the gate detection method works if the rules are followed. I understand there's a 10 mph MAS for the line but sadly it looks like the human element has failed here. I wonder what the engineer was thinking when he throttled up and what his work hours were. A long time ago (1959) I drove a cab for ...

The model of the crossing reflects as it was in 1950; double track main and the non-gated yard tracks. It was also build before I had access to the ETimetables and the Emery Trackmaps and so the yard tracks are not as accurate as they should be. Sorry for that but I'm not gonna' rip it up to conform...
