Good thing it wasn't really stressful exams such a Math and Physics, Chem, etc. The car would now be on the moon. Really lucky they were able to walk away from it.

NMRA rule of thumb is an HO engine should weigh at least one pound, 16 ounces. You can add weights provided the motor can take the additional load. Watch the amperage draw of the engine, if it exceeds one half Amp, and starts climbing to one Amp you are overloading it. And of course if the motor sta...

You have time for lunch at LAUS, and I recommend Phillipes on Alameda. The fellas in the information booth will give you directions, a short walk north. Great sandwiches.

I have seen bikes on the Los Angeles subway, the Red Line. Spoke with a bike owner and he told me that bikes are permitted on the subway only during non-rush hours, and a permit has to be issued to the owner. The owner has to stay with the bike.

If you are a member of AAA, they would be an excellent source for such information, and maps of the streets, stations, etc. They would also know where the good restaurants are.

Metrolink allows you to take your bike on board and tie it down in the area reserved for wheel chairs. Naturally the presence of a wheel chair takes precedence and you would have to find a space on another car. Each car has a space for two wheel chairs or two bikes. The bikes are simply chained or t...

Been on board Amtrak 10031, and it is a great full dome car. Lots of room to move around and see the world. I got the five dollar tour by a lady conductor one day at LAUS, and she told me that the car would soon be retired, since it was quite old.

Metrolink, Los Angeles area, has a buffer for being on time. If the train is within five minutes of published schedule time, it is on time. That means it could also be early.

Yup, that got EMD really interested in working with turbochargers, finally, and the results are history.

You might also want to look into the GP-9's of the Union Pacific. They were rebuilt to 2000 hp.

Metrolink's F-59 PH and PHI's are used in the push-pull mode. When they are pulling, the headlights and ditch lights are on. All red lights are off. In the push mode, headlights and ditch lights are off, and the red lights are on. There is no one in the engine, the engineman is in the cab car, leadi...

Been there recently and got the same run around. The summer is gone, and now they are debating the fall. They do have test trains running from LAUS towards little Tokyo from time to time, all the trackage is there, including a new double crossover, but so far no trains in sight heading that way. Are...
