The East-LA extension of the Gold Line is now open:

After decades of waiting, their trains arrive (Los Angeles Times)

The line extends about 6 miles east of Los Angeles Union Station, and runs in a tunnel in Boyle Heights, ending at 3rd St. and Atlantic Blvd.

There are plans to extend it further eastward, to either South El Monte or Whittier.

The first part of the Expo Line will go out to Culver City and will be done next year:

It is to be extended further westward to Santa Monica.

It's really nice, but slow. A short subway segment in the middle of the route somewhat makes up for the slow sections.

Beautiful views of the LA skyline can be had from the Pico/Aliso Station. The Soto subway station has some cool artwork. Near the end of the line there is a nice park complete with a lake. Get off at Maravilla Station for King Taco.

This baby isn't going to really perform until the Downtown Regional Connector is built, that will join the Blue Line with the Gold Line to Pasadena, and the Expo Line with the Gold Line to the Eastside via Downtown.

Sure. Statistically speaking, there is a very low chance of anything happening to us, especially if we are only walking near the stations (such as visiting King Taco which is open 24 hours, which I've done before with friends).
