Pardon me if I sound a bit ignorant here... were there such massive cancellations and shut-down of the airlines because of volcanic eruptions in the past? I remember a few volcanic eruptions in the news in the past 15 - 20 years but no massive airline shut-downs. On a more on-topic note, are there a...

Looking for Red / Orange line subway car diagrams

Hey, I remember there was a line-art schematic of the K-car for the CR- is there anything like that for the orange (hawker-siddeley cars) / red (1700's or 1800's) lines that I can use? A full body photo of either subway car will work as well. I'm asking since I need to do a wrap-around advertisement...

Thanks for your tips. Dieter, I'll look into that NY business and let you know what happens with them. Otto, I don't have any spare or junk model cars lying around that I can use or practice on, and the only sources of new train stuff for me is the Springfield train show or ordering stuff online bec...

Now I understand why on the rare occasion that I need to catch the 6:54 train out of Stoughton, the train comes out of nowhere.

Why do they do that?

Islandworks actually does N scale too, I ordered N scale stuff from them.

Help with MBTA Kawaski bi-levels in N scale

Hi, all. I got some prototypical MBTA bi-levels in N scale from IslandModelworks, but they are all unpainted shells. I was wondering how to get them painted and such. I had a few questions about this and how to make the MBTA bi-levels more realistic / authentic. 1. How do I paint the shells? I talke...

Is the MBTA usually receptive to such requests, or do they clam up and refuse to share anything? Just wondering, because of the whole photo / video policy they did a while back and then changed the rules to allow them again and such.

Hey all. I was wondering if any of you guys know of any plans, blueprints, dimensions, etc. of the K cars? I would like to get my hands on these plans if possible for some computer modeling of the K cars in Maya, Gmax, or Autodesk. I've tried looking around a bit and couldn't seem to find K car stuf...

Hate to bring up the obvious, but I was wondering if the MBTA is going to chase railfans or make a bulletin board of railfan faces and stuff so that the MBTA will interfere with these railfans in the future? I mean, this camera technology can be used aganist railfans, but not sure if this is likely ...

Wouldn't tunneling fix some NIMBY'ism in Lexington? Also, I could never understand NIMBY'ism in urban areas, especially with the horrible traffic jams, not being able to find parking, and all that stuff related to car travel. Subways solve this problem by letting people park outside Boston and not h...

Thanks for the info, guys.

I have another question. What are the likely options for Red Line expansions in the future? Lexington? Fairmount? Arlington? Watertown via Harvard? Or other possibilities?

That would require rebuilding every station from Mattapan to JFK/UMass, buying enough articulated LRVs to operate 3-car trains during rush hour on headways that match the Red Line, and building a new maintenance facility for those LRVs. And service would probably be noticeably degraded over what it...

Hey all, I was doing a bit of research on the subways, and found a tidbit that said that when the MBTA assigned letters to the Red Line, the A, B, and C letters, the "B" was for a possible route to Brockton. The A was for Quincy / Braintree and C for Ashmont. This is the paragraph I found ...

Bernard Cohen and Dan Grabauskas were harbingers of the financial apocalypse last fall when I heard them deliver the (unsurprising) news to the Ridership Oversight Committee. Make no mistake about it, the situation is beyond critical. This isn't going to be a simple fare hike - the T is nearing a p...

I heard that the gas tax may be lowered by 10 cents, failing to meet Patrick's 19 cent goal. Does this mean the T will have to cut back on service and routes and train frequency? I remember the whole doomsday and Chicken Little routine by the MBTA chairman a couple weeks ago or so. Is it actually go...
