7285,

Slow approach is R/R/flashing Y, at least according to the NORAC Rule Book.

Hi,
My favorite is Red over yellow over flashing green.
Medium approach medium...
(Emfinite knows that one by heart)

Did the signal dept ever heard of work with what you have?
They used to!

Check out these old kerosene lamps converted to electric block limit signals:

Dave,
It's a multi million dollar shame that they don't look at their past and see that they can get by useing what they have. IE make it 261 w/ the LIRR signals not no forigen garbage. if were not a good enough freight road why use their signals?

BTW, im haveing withdrawals looking at what a rich history and great RR we once had. dam it sucks we cant resorect thoes men.

In a way the LIRR is a meuseum in it's self. and it should stay that way, I don't think the signaling system or types of signals will make the LIRR preformance beter.

They pissed millions in PORT on PL's why did'nt they put the ugly 3some monstrosities their? now it's double the work?
The only way to make sence in this is to have the trainsportation dept employees not mgmt or not, rebell, and say you screw us, not a train will run. that will make this into a court case, most likely reselting in 261 to montauk and a the need to work with what we have.

So 7285, what you are suggesting is that there is a general shutdown of service, basically a wildcat strike to protest color light signals? Are you serious?

Im not serious nor am i in the position to tell some them what do do, It just goes the show the way each dept goes and thinks on their own way and does their own thing not working together.

I dont care about learning the color lights, thats absolutly not problem seems a bit eaiser then the PL,s but I just argue the point and the decision to go about changeing the signaling system on the railroad from what everyone is trains and qualified on to a forigen system that before trains can even run out their they need to be qualified on the colorlight signals, whereas if thoes responsible used jsut .1% commonsence they would have looked at that mistake and said lets keep the PLs caus our company is qualified on the.
by doing it this way the east end is now a forigen road, untill all are qualified on the mistake.

I said strike to capture attention, but a stirke is 100% un realistic there would have to be more reasons to just strike.

Weather or not the railroad is the place it once was, it is very appualing that the depts cannot work together and device a system that when in effect it will not require every one to re qualify as if they are working on a forigen road.
Weather the PL parts are hard to find or not, the idea to change the system over was a waist of money, then you look at port and they kept PLs Why not color lights their??

The point is one dept is changing the railroad to "forigen road" and leaving the rest the same. why cant any one in the know stnd up and say we will no be walked on and we will not take your garbage we want what we have and thats that.

I dont know all of this that is why i post it here. i figure that someone is in the know.

Depends on who in Transportation is in charge of the Branch in question. If that person refrains from making an issue, then the Dept who is a proponent of the change in question will proceed with their plan.
I would imagine that they would have to bring in the guys to relearn the Physical Characteristics. I wouldn't think they will simply place a map on a General Notice, but then again who knows.

Joe 7285,
Modern times are here!!!!
I am glad when I was little to see the RS3's in Eastport doing Beacon Feed's(Easport Feed's) Bangor&Arosttok and Precision National loco's. All this stuff is GONE!!!
Joe, Just be glad you have pictures, memories and such.
When I started going to Florida back in 1996 FEC was phasing out the GP-9's did I cry NOOOO, I took as many pictures and videotaped the sound. I have memories. I am not picking on you. JUST STOP IT!!!! It is over and done with, I know I'll miss Patchogue and manual block to Speonk.

Legio,

Here's a shot of the new signal bridge at MS. Taken on my camera phone, so not the best quality.

<img src="http://www.trainweb.org/nyar/sigbrg.jpg">

The bags are still over the signal heads, so there's not much to see.

Nice pic Joe T.

Joe, I'm sad to see the signals go too....and I agree that it is kind of silly to phase out a proven system that everyone's used to and that many of us prefer.....but the railroad's changed many times. There were semaphore signals at one time, and I'm sure they had a big following too, and a lot of let down people when they phased them out. But, they eventually got used to the "new" signals at the time and it was just another day at the office. It'll be the same with these new color light signals.

Hey guys,

Nice shot Joe, I think I have a photo from the same location… You can clearly notice that the new signals are Not position lights. But like others said, times change…

Liquidcamphor, I know the old Superintendent for the branch, I’ll have to ask him about the signals...

Here is a photo from a DE30 looking at the new signal bridge, meanwhile the old position light shows “High Ball”!

Enjoy,
