No Super Bowl special on Metro-North

by Penn Central ¦  Wed Dec 18, 2013 8:59 pm ¦  Forum: MTA Metro-North Railroad and CtRail Passenger Rail (SLE, Hartford, Extensions) ¦  Topic: No Super Bowl special on Metro-North ¦  Replies: 24 ¦  Views: 5431

After running special trains to the Meadowlands (via Secaucus) all season, I was surprised to see that there will be no special service for the Super Bowl. The MTA is advising Metro-North riders to take trains to GCT and transfer to Penn Station by subway. With parking severely curtailed for the gam...

Fatal accident in Dumont today. Single track territory probably caused some delays.

Re: Fastest Metro-North train

If a train were to leave a station early, the crew would enjoy a unpaid vacation. railroad has train tracking and time out of stations and passing of interlockings is logged. it would be a blatant violation of MNCR time Table rules, and would not take more than a few minutes to get caught. I wonder...

Also, once the line goes from manual block to TCS there is, theoretically anyway, the opportunity to raise the speed limit. By law manual block is limited to 59 mph (isn't that right? I'm not certain . . . ) and TCS is 70 mph (right?). However given the very curvy nature of the route, plus the 26 g...

The BL36PH will have extended range dynamic brakes with blended brakes. I confirmed this with the company. The max speed for the BL36PH is 82 mph while the MPI unit is geared for 110. The 82 mph max might be fine with the current track speeds on tri-rail but would limit the unit if higher speeds we...

Wonder how these will compare in pulling power and braking with the HHP-8's, NJT ALP46A's and AEM-7AC's? With 8,000 hp and 71,000lbs of tractive effort, I would think that the Sprinter will be as fast as the HHP-8 and AEM-7AC. Hopefully, they will perform better in slippery rail conditions that the...

While commuter rail between Lakeland and Tampa would be feasible, there is no funding for such projects. Hillsborough tried to pass a 1% sales tax increase in 2010 to fund light rail and other transportation projects and it was defeated by a large margin, although the measure actually passed within ...

Also heard they dont give the watch anymore http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g32/lirrconductor/rrwatch.jpg I wonder if this has anything to do with Greg Mocker's report a while back that called out the MTA for ordering watches to give to retirees. I think it was up to that point that I respected h...

The message signs on the Hudson Line were purchased 20 years ago and were designed to show approaching train times and arrival tracks but the software for the system was written to run on 386 based computers. By the time the signs arrived, 386 computers were obsolete and Metro-North bought 486 compu...

If cab signals are installed, that signal could be removed. If a train was approaching and the signal was dark it would be taken at its most restrictive indication, which would be stop and proceed (at restricted speed).

When the lower level food court was opened the MTA stated that they were not interested in fast food chains, like McDonalds. Only chain store in GCT is Starbucks. Not sure why they discriminate if a fast food chain store can pay the rent. The food is over priced. When I worked there, I would head to...

They are closing Route 17 this weekend to work on the crossing. That will make a lot of people unhappy.

The MNRR M7a's do not have the sliding privacy shade that the LIRR M7's do. This employee who has committed the wrong doing faces extreme disciplinary actions up to and including dismissal with fines of FRA rule violations. And yes, almost all employees are very cautious of any and all film footage...

I couldn't open the map link (it says my institution is not allowed), but I did find a good one on wikipedia. From 1909 , it shows the planned NJ SHore line from Weehawken going north to the Hudson/Bergen county border, connecting with the Edgewater and Ft Lee RR (NYSW). Not sure of the date. http:...

Either opinion or fact, but have the BL20-GHs become less than dependable replacements for the FL-9s?
