Another reason the F&JA was busy, at least between Jamesburg and Freehold, was that Freehold was the county seat (still is) and at that time, the main courthouse there handled everything in Monmouth. (Ocean County was part of Monmouth until 1850). Lots of Trenton-Freehold court business as well....

Someone mentioned a ballast hopper between Okerson and Prestone. A full-sized railcar? Maybe the first "real" railcar to travel the revitalized F&JA? Any pics?

Yes, good to see you Kaback9! Welcome back. In the Pennsy years, they boasted the 4-track Main Line could handle what a FORTY LANE superhighway could. All I hear now is the line now can't handle "all this traffic" on the NE Corridor. With limited freight allowed, where is this "traffi...

I have a question. While visiting the Allenwood post office I observed several pictures of the Freehold Jamesburg railroad and small wooden station. As I’m 80 years old I remember all the pictures in real life except one. The picture in question was of a small stone station that looked as if it was...

A little long but very interesting. I have both of Brinckmann's books. I've wandered around some of these locations and it is there if you look. Long live the Tuckerton!

I saw that Toy Train notice on FB this morning. Encouraging, to say the least.

"@Railcar1 Pretty much this, although I will say circumstances vary. There are areas of the state where the people are friendly. From what I’ve seen, it’s usually in areas where the population is spread out and traffic is generally light. A lot more peaceful in these areas…" I agree with b...

Was in Farmingdale this morning and saw that Southard Ave was blocked off at the crossing for the water main work. Couldn't really get close to it for pictures. Trucks were having some difficulties with the detours set up.

It was planned as a high-speed Shore-to-Trenton interurban line. Some ROW was surveyed and cleared, ties and rail delivered, news accounts of the day said how much progress had been made (little to none, althought the media of the day claimed it would be open and running in months) and the line neve...

For the Asbury Park Press, there was a private siding that ran from the Bradley Beach / Neptune freight yard, across Memorial Drive, to A. G. Rogers warehouse. The boxcars would be unloaded there and the rolls of newsprint were trucked to the Press plant on Rt 66 (which is no longer there) The Memor...

News12 had a report on Marl Road last night (Monday, 24-Apr). The Howell OEM head was interviewed saying there was no immediate local danger and no evacuations were being planned. The contents of the drums were being evaluated and cleanup has begun.

Take Bracdude's idea and paint the 752 into CNJ's "Coast Guard" red with wide white stripe, with the various company logos in the stripe. After all, it is running on former CNJ rails.

On that pic of the Marl Road crossing, the single head signal once had a large "take siding" lamp under the signal head. I only saw it lit once, many years ago. The three-head absolute signal on the west/southbound side protecting the crossing was in operation until the crossing was remove...

I was out driving around yesterday and checked out the progress. A Railroad Construction crew was working by Okerson with a hi-rail tractor. I haven't really been driving around there that much lately and was certainly surprised at all the new construction - houses and warehouses. A case of "Wh...

I think it was mentioned in Tom Gallo's "Henry Hudson Trail" book that Earle had rail service from the Seashore Branch. It seems a boxcar was left at Earle after the line was shut down, and a bulldozer or tractor had to move the boxcar from Earle to where it could be hauled away in a train...
