What the LIRR MU whistles sounded like

We had a thread discussing what the whistles on the old MU's sounded like. While this is NOT Lirr equipment, I took this recently at The Illinois RR museum. This is pretty much how the LIRR Mu's sounded. Click on the picture, it should work. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g32/lirrconductor/th_lir...

Taken at the Illinois Railroad Museum. While not LIRR this is what the whistles on the Mu's sounded like..

The M-1's had a lot of bugs to work out of them, and it took years. In the mid 70's it was nothing to be 45 minutes late getting into Penn in the Morning, due to the Jamaica bottleneck caused by equipment touble ahead. Then the air conditioners started breaking down, and they had to rehaul all the A...

Nice thought, but it does not work. Restricted speed is a speed not exceeding 15 MPH, looking out for any possible condition. If he ran off the rail, he violated restricted speed. Period, end of report. Even though there might be mitigating things, bottom line is Restricted speed was violated. Botto...

The LIRR did have a track that connected to the Subway in Flatbush ave Brooklyn. The track and switch were still in place when I hired on in 1973. It ran along the north side of the station to the west end of the number 2 and 3 line, on the west end of the number 2 and 3 line platform. The switch co...
