30 days has september, april June and the crew that went on the ground.....

I passed by Morris Park and didn't see any new additions to the deadline next to Atlantic Ave. The 165 and 102 have been there with their stacks capped for months. What engines were involved in the derailment?

MP-15 168 was the unit "nose dived" into the ballast, might be at Hillside by now,or hiding on 1 of
the roundhouse tracks at Morris Park.

Is 168 repairable or is the damage too beyond repair?? If so how long will it be OOS? Thanks

at about 15 mph, I doubt the damage is bad enough to retire the unit.

It is in Morris Park on number one track with its fuel tank removed.

Datenail brings up a salient point. All of the track is leased by NYAR, but LIRR owns every inch. Who gave them authority to tear up and realign track and not place this in a General Notice as required by the transfer agreement? That should be enough to vindicate the CE Crew.

not as far as certification rules go, restricted speed is biggest OOS item under FRA certification rules.
and any restricted speed violation is FRA reportable.

#167 was in good shape after the derailent and was on the Jamaica switcher as seen yesterday afternoon.

Glad to hear all concerned are conversant with FRA and LIRR rules, but lets let the engine box download and other information be gathered before assigning blame (including the hearing) prematurely.

Nice thought, but it does not work. Restricted speed is a speed not exceeding 15 MPH, looking out for any possible condition. If he ran off the rail, he violated restricted speed. Period, end of report. Even though there might be mitigating things, bottom line is Restricted speed was violated.
Bottom line is he did not stop in time. Sorry Kids thats the way the rules work. Like when engine 160 ran away, several things went wrong. First a valve was installed upside down on the Engine, allowing the brakes to bleed off. Second, there was a temporary derail at the exit from the yard, that the engine crushed. However if the crew had followed the rules, the engine would have been tied down, and wheels chocked, and the train would not have run away. FRA faulted the crew for not applying the hand brake, and not chocking the wheels, despite the other reasons.
A speed not exceeding 15 MPH while looking out for Train, obstruction, switch not properly lined, derail, crossing protection out of order, while looking out for broken rail.. and I know I missed at least one. That was some derail by the way. So we have switch not properly lined, broken rail, and derail. Unless there was a catostrophic failure of the brakes. Not attacking anyone, worked there almost 34 years. Just telling you the way it works.

The 160 violated restricted speed at the same location topped out 27 mph right around that exact location in March 2004. Do the block signals still light up even though they don't effect movement on the track? The one a bit west of there near Maspeth yard should of probably showed a stop and proceed coming up to the West Yard near Fresh Pond if track was removed!

There are no more signals on the Lower Montauk. They are secondary tracks with no assigned direction. They violated restricted speed when they failed to line the spring switch for number one track as directed by the NYAR Yardmaster. They were given permission on number one track Bliss to Jay. They went up number two track.

All signals on that line are garbage bagged.

Yes. Garbage bagged, scheduled to be removed. The same as no more signals.
