Is this system the same system that Amtrak uses on the rest of the NEC?

I think most people would prefer to travel 100 miles plus in Amtrak equipment rather than an LIRR C3 Bilevel. Those bilevels aren’t meant for traveling all the way out to Montauk from NYC. The great advantage about the Amtrak is that people traveling on vacation to the Hamptons and Montauk from the...

Amtrak 10002, the Corridor Clipper, visits Montauk. 401 leads 409, C3 4055, and 10002 as they run passed Patchogue. Rumor on various forums is that this is being done as part of a study for bringing Amtrak service to Long Island, including all the way out to Montauk. These pictures were taken on the...

Westbound direct service to Penn Station on Sunday is resuming (Train 8717). The Thursday version is returning as well. At least until the new schedules, the cannonball is manipulated for 8 cars, instead of the traditional 12. montauk schedules through 6/13 http://web.mta.info/lirr/Timetable/Branch...

Amtrak Ronkonkoma service has some interesting ideas. Part of it is the HSR and a possible LI-Sound tunnel. I think one of the things would be Ronk to the Poconos for Ski Trips during the winter. In the summer Jitney's could meet the train for transfers to the east end. I'd love to see P32s with a s...

Wading River piqued my interest as I'm only passingly familiar with it. So I did some research: http://www.lirrhistory.com/wading.html and http://www.lirrhistory.com/nov2006/wadingpanorama1.jpg I'm sure much of the ROW has been encroached on since it's been 81 years, but it does look like it would ...

LIRR Wishlist (speculation)

So I am hoping to spur some discussion about LIRR upgrades, particularly in Suffolk County that would help improve mobility and access. These ideas include track upgrades (double track, realignments, 3rd rail) as well as upgrades for capacity (signalling, new engines/rolling stock.) My wish list inc...

Definitely sounding much better in that second video. I wonder why that is.

I've always wondered if there was room for a higher end luxury trainset with higher prices that could operate in place of or in addition to the Cannonball for the Hampton's Reserve service as well as weekend wine tour on the North Fork. If this isn't something the LIRR would invest in, would they al...

The R&D process is still on going, the Dual mode chargers have a weight issue with the energy storage module needed to jump the 3rd rail gaps. I wonder if some Tesla power packs could help with that weight issue. I don't know what the weight goals are, but supposedly the tesla power backs have s...

According to my source 518 does in fact have some Seimens charger parts as a bit of an under the radar test.

LIRR Operations at the end of the 1990's/early 2000's.

My memory from the time isn't great as I'm just too young, so I have some questions for those of you that are old enough. In the end of 90's, the C3/DM30's were brought online and the GP38's and P72/P75/Diesel hauled coaches were phased out. What, if any, service was ran on the south shore that was ...

The ends of the C3s also have a slightly different profile. The roof on the C3 has a slightly lowered profile on either end.

That FL9 appears to be with C1's. According to wikipedia the C1s were sold in 1999.
