The Cannonball will return for the 2021 Season starting tomorrow May 28th.

At this point it is scheduled for Fridays only (No Thursdays), and no Westbound version on Sundays.

Hampton Reserve Car service will not be offered.

Westbound direct service to Penn Station on Sunday is resuming (Train 8717). The Thursday version is returning as well.

At least until the new schedules, the cannonball is manipulated for 8 cars, instead of the traditional 12.

montauk schedules through 6/13

Maybe a build up for the Holiday? I guess we'll see.

2708 manipulated for 6 cars, operated with 8
2798 manipulated for 8 cars, operated with 10
2796 manipulated for 5 cars, operated with 6. Although, that may be the result of 2739 being cancelled that day.

2796 is only supposed to operate with a maximum of 5 cars now. Due to PTC upgrades, capacities of all of the sidings have been reduced. 2796 operates west as 2709 and wont fit in the siding at Hampton Bays west of the crossover switch if they have more than 6 units (5 cars + 1 engine or 4 cars + 2 engines). With 6 cars on Friday, 2708 had to take the siding and forced them to do a reverse move, delaying their train.
