DogBert, It's not about how many engines are needed on a particular train, it's about the fact they don't have engines to cover the assignments when summer track work picks up. In reality, many work trains they run only need one engine, but they like doubling them up in case one takes a dump or they...

I've heard a couple different grumblings amongst LIRR and NYA crews about these new engines. LIRR says that they're getting those same locomotives and NYAR is tacking onto the order and NYAR says that they're ordering independently of the LIRR, taking delivery by the end of this year. Not sure what ...

Several other Engineers have seen the coyote that resides near the under jump where Port Wash 2 crosses mainline 1 & 3. I personally have not seen that one. I have seen the one that lives in the wooded field west of Locust Manor station on the north side of Atlantic 1. Three times I've seen it, ...

I hear almost exclusively Hispanic Block Operator trainees on the train radios as of late, so that explains that!

Steve,

On the NEW map, north of Hall tower there is an "X" (double slip) crossover. The two tracks just east and connected to that crossover would be the MH and MY pocket.

I was Pilot on the TC82 one night and the 82 driver called Hall asking to test the MH and the MY pocket. My first time ever hearing those two terms. I believe they are the two tracks right in front of Hall Tower, within the interlocking, that eventually turn into Mainlines 2 & 4.

Here's a couple scans of the block sheets from Bliss I was talking about. I have 3 or 4 books but not enough time to scan every sheet.

Dauntless, I have some train movement records from Bliss in the 1998-99 era with all the train and job numbers. Most are with all old equipment numbers. I have to scan them in for you. Lots of NYAR jobs listed too with the crew members names for the repeat times of the S cards. Most guys have moved ...

I couldn't figure out for the life of me, why didn't they use the low tracks in Penn for eastbounds and send them east out Line 2 and have the westbounds use the high side and Line 4 like usual. Harold was congested while westbound trains off Mainline 3 were routed to Line 2 while eastbounds sat at ...

Steve, you're correctly labeled except where you wrote ABV, that was the throttle. The ABV would be dead center of the photo. The bell on the old ALCos would be right behind the tip of the ABV handle. Air gauge to the left is Equalizing Reservoir and Main Reservoir, gauge to the right would be the B...

Great pictures. I love the power pack cab photo. Can any old-timers answer this... I've never operated anything with a 24RL, but I've watched a couple videos on the internet showing the engineer running with one. It seems like to get any sort of brake on those things, you had to leave it in service ...

There have been a couple of Engineer Trainees who decided in the 11th hour during their qualifying exams that they wanted to go back to being an AC. The railroad let them go back. Shouldn't be an issue.

I have the old metal flag and socket from SG cabin. On one side, it's yellow with semi-circular wear marks from a lantern swinging on it and the other side is painted black and has a white line diagonally across it. I've never seen any reference of what the white line represented. I'm guessing if th...
