I'm fairly certain all rock is sedentary by nature. The proposed cut stood atop an anticlinal formation consisting of what they referred to as 'decayed rock' that was too brittle to support the cut's walls.

NJT was able to shortened the tunnel to less than 1,000 feet in length as part of the ongoing project, to skirt federal safety requirements for tunnel ventilation.

OK Greg, Geo 101-2 @ Univ of Illinois-Urbana Champaign, didn't get into a Civil Engineering matter such as it appears you are addressing.

What progress has been made since June on the new Andover Station, tunnel, and track being laid anywhere?

Does anyone have a guess on when they'll start scrapping the ALP's on site? I want to try to get to them one more time before they go.

Hey everyone....

I shot some new construction / rehab photos of the Roseville Tunnel and Colby Cut. Looks like the electrical work has begun and the tunnel's concrete lining looks to be complete. Still, lots of work remains.

Here are two updates, one from late August 2024 which never got posted, and one from last week in October 2024.

ALL ABOARD !

August 22 Update

Semi Off-Topic post, but definitely worthy of being here IMO. I recently shot some aerial photos of the DL&W Pequest Fill looking southwest to northeast. I have always wanted to capture the fill in the fall with the colorful foliage allowing it to standout against the flat adjacent farmland, and today I got my wish...

Enjoy !

With the announcement of Amtrak service to Scranton, I'm starting to think that the cutoff may (hopefully) be developed further (and possibly faster) into NJ and PA by NJ Transit than intended. Looks like there may be a bright future in sight for the cutoff!

(also, just a theory, but they may end up electrifying it for faster NY Direct service in a shared service with Amtrak)

I think it's supposed to be a few trains per day. When it's a few trains per hour, electrification would make sense.
