Re: 'Digital' radios on CSX?

OK, I'm confused now. I was under the impression that we were talking DIGITAL transmission, not digital voice encryption. Our county uses the digital PL transmission, and we do not have any problems with background noise. My dept. isn't using the intergrated mask mics yet. We still use portable rad...

I was there on Thursday for the first time in a month or two, and the difference was quite evident. Lots of new ballast, some new switches, and various contractor MOW machinery kicking around - and this is just in Arcade. It looks like they still have plenty of work at hand, but then again, that's t...

I believe you're talking about the old Burrow's Lot Yard, now being served by the Buffalo Southern...Simtrains could provide a better explanation than I could.

Q100 and Q153, the old UPS bullet trains. Q090 and Q091 take a close second place.

The rumor about railroads going digital is a bunch of baloney. They *may* see limited use with digital and encryption, such as railroad police applications, but you'll never see it on mainline trains - not for a LONG time anyway. There's too much infrastructure to be replaced, and too many problems ...

Thank you all for the kind compliments! Getting into Trains has been a goal of mine for the past few years, though I never expected to achieve it quite this quick! Which reminds me of a conversation Otto and I had the other day, about being younger and wondering who these people were writing these a...

I have to agree - we *HAVE* to police our own. Also be discrete and use some common sense, and it'll greatly help our cause. If you see a railfan doing something blatantly wrong and quite stupid, tap him on the shoulder and say something - if they give you an attitude, just head to another spot. The...

They had this issue in earlier releases of the Genesis SD70s. Adding weight over the trucks, replacing the trucks with ones from the latest run, or both *should* effectively solve the problem.

They'll usually get to Brockport between 10 and 2 (Noon to 2 is most common from my experience).

Yet another "my lens is bigger than yours" thread. I find it funny that there are more threads on here showcasing equipment purchases than those discussing how to use it . Enough rambling, on with the list! I was just curious to see what everyone else out there shot with (and you didn't h...

Well, this thread surfaces all over the place, but I couldn't find one here, so I'm starting one. What kind of camera and associated gear do you use? Whether it's a $99 "Wal-Mart Special", or $10,000 of professional gear, let's hear it! My current set-up: -Canon EOS Rebel XT w/Battery Grip...

To be specific, no freight runs between where the line crossing International Bridge at Black Rock ties in and where the Compromise Branch branches off. I believe there is an agreement in effect, and why bother using that stretch when the Belt Line is a perfectly good line that works out better for ...

You can get a clear shot from across the main on museum property (a few steps off the road). I doubt the owners would mind you shooting them from their property, so long as you're not trashing it or anything. On the South side of the tracks, you ARE trespassing, and can't get a good shot anyhow - ev...

Western New York. You can see the E8As as well as the Medina Railroad Museum (well worth the visit IMO) at Medina, NY. You can shoot the units from the museum lot across the Falls Road Railroad main. The Falls Road Railroad runs Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with RS32 #2035 and RS11 #1802.

As promised, here's a few shots from the move today. Special thanks to Marty Phelps and the Medina Railroad Museum for bringing these units back to their home territory!
