A light rail running up the main drag? Would that be Atlantic or Pacific Avenue?

Exactly what we need...more "units of transportation" on already overcrowded streets.

We need ways to alleviate traffic here, not add more to it. Shove the light rail. The concept of adding more is moronic, and something that we as area residents will never approve.

Now you know why we think the "shoobies" are nuts.

Exactly. The problem as I see it is cars and not people. Better public transportation means less cars on the street. While many people will not consider taking a bus to get around, many will choose to go by rail. The moderators want us to stop discussing light rail on this thread, so I have created a new thread for those that want to continue discussing this. It is located in General Discussion: Commuter and Transit. Hope to see you there.

Would it be cheaper to just electrify the whole ACL??? Wouldnt that solve almost EVERY problem? There would be no worries about duel mode locomotives, or the problem of leasing p-32's from Amtrak. If the ACL was electrified, there would be no problems of switching out loco's at Frankford, they woukd just simply walk from the engine to the cab.

Off Topic but: Last night my train on the ACL had a HEP failure, I over heard a Conductor say that the HEP could be re-set from the cab. My question is, can it? I doubt it but I need expert responses here.

Heres another question about AC-NY service.... I heard in the news the casinos have to dish out millions, or the state will be closing them down... could this affect the ACES??

Why spend millions of dollars running light rail in AC when all that is needed is a few more shuttle busses. Everything down there works well; we don't have millions of dollars to play around with in fantasy land.

My concern is that our local trains are going to be much slower now because many will have to sit on the sidings waiting for the NYC express trains to pass through. Any thoughts about how the schedules will change?

Got $100MM for a line that carries 3000 riders a day?

How about providing hourly or close to it service - the track itself can handle it with the positions of the sidings, signal system, etc........lets be a little realistic......

AFAIK, the ACL had the biggest jump in percentage in ridership increases last year of all NJT heavy rail lines.

I agree with that notion. No reason why hourly service wasn't established a number of years back in fact...

though I think it is a good idea. You probably would need 2 more trainsets with crews to provide hourly service. How many trainsets does the ACL operate with now? 4 (plus a spare) right?

yes they use 4 trainsets and a spare that is always parked on track 1

NJT says they are commited to the ACL. I dont think so. Think about it. This line had the most ridership growth on all the lines and NJT cant spare extra cars to help. On the weekende it is SRO"STANDING ROOM ONLY". That is not fair for someone who gets on at the last stop before AC. New cars and locos are 2 years behind schedule. Someone needs to be held accountable.

The Comet IVs down there are a good running fleet, you're better off without the Comet Vs...

when you have 10 car NEC trains that are SRO for 3 stops before NYP and don't have enough cars for those trains I think they get priority over the ACL. In another 6 months we'll have plenty of cars.

I'm sure within that time we'll see eight car trains as well on the ACL once the NEC gets those bilevles. those cars sould then be sent to other lines including ACL and the traisn shoudl be eight cars logn just like the NEC and Midtown Direct Trains.

Also if NJT really wants to grow the southern system they should start passenger service on the Cape May Line since all it requires is signaling and have the tracks rebuilt to handle higher speeds. The line is owned by them so they might as well go for it. Not to mention the most important project of building a transfer station from the South Jersey LR to the ACL which will brign even more people. Once these are done no longer will the ACL be known as the neglected step child.

speaking of the cape may line, was down there july 4th weekend. That place gets jam packed and would highly benefit if there was rail traffic.

Well, if the Cape May line got funding to restore the whole section up to Tuckahoe then maybe people would take the train! Not only that, but between Cape May Court House and Cape May City the tracks can only handle trains at 35 mph...I think people want to get to the beaches in speed!!
