There are many times I've been on the Parkway summer weekends wishing I could go as fast as 35.

agree.

Well if the trains can run at even 40-50 mph that will be an improvment considering that the Parkway is infact a PARKing lot (fitting isn't it  ) But I think a upgrade to handle traisn running at 80 mph is good enough. What's the speed on ACL anyway? 90-100?

With the Cape May Line up and running more people will take the train even during the winter to their jobs and other engagements in Phili or points in between esp with a transfer station to the River line that wil ltake people to Trenton and Camden. At first I didn't support this project but now I think it wil lbe a good thing. This will give Soth Jersey residents an impression that NJT is not only for those in the North and Central area but for the south as well. NJT made a big mistake to can this project. They can redeem themselves by reinstating Cape May and begin work on that transfer station project.

Used to be 90, but I think it's only 80 now.

NJT motto is put all your eggs in one basket and the heck with the people in south jersey.

Well with the project ideas I put fourth and with NJT being pressured to buildmore stuff in south Jersey like the Transfer Station and to start the Cape May Line that will soon change if more people keep pushing for more of it.

so, any more updates on this? the total lack of detail on this project bugs the hell out of me.

There's a total lack of detail because there is nothing to this project—nothing concrete, no startup plan, no funding, not even listed on the NJT capital improvement projects page. I suspect that it will fizzle eventually.

well wasn't there all this funding from the casinos? like, for the diesels from amtrak and for the cars as well? and supposedly this thing is supposed to be running in a year?
it does sound ridiculously pie-in-the-sky, but i thought the money was really there. or not?

I would say "not". Certainly too much too soon, right? Nothing's mentioned in the FY2007 NJDOT projects page either. Just newspaper fodder for now. The proposal is for NJT to operate the old Amtrak service from a decade ago; that didn't work out, and now there aren't any slots to operate out of NYP for these trains.

This proposed service is supposed to operate only on weekends (well except for a few trains Friday evening). What is the problem with slot availability on weekends? My guess is that this will happen way before anything on the much vaunted NJDOT 2007 project page, if the casinos actually cover the cost of the project, as they are allegedly threatning to do.

I agree.. I think this project is more likely to happen then most of the other projects. However, I still have yet to try and understand how they are going to run Diesel trains into NYP.

I think after much huffing and puffing about dual mode and whatnots, they will change locomotives at Shore interlocking

Your probably right, but in the end I envision NJT will be going the GE route by leasing P40 and P42 varieties strictly for this service.!

I wouldn't be so sure. Considering that NJT is now +33 road locomotives (the PL42ACs) and, by the time of service (probably) without the 15 GP40FH-2 units, they're up 18 locomotives on the whole, which is more than enough to cover this service, without having to lease more power.
