The Fall 2013 Great Batavia Train Show will be earlier than usual this year. The show will Be Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013 from 9:30AM to 3:30PM at the Clarion Hotel, 8250 Park Rd., Batavia. The same location as the other recent shows. Admission is still only a $5.00 donation for adults $2.00 for ages 13-18 and under 13 Free. Space still precludes operating layouts but as always lots of dealers and variety.

Most of the other fall shows are on their usual weekends, I haven't taken the time to compile a list yet.

The only questionmark I have is Binghamton at the museum is unknown at this point - and of course the Buffalo Terminal show was cancelled ages ago, apparently so was it's replacement, don't know and haven't looked into it. Originally would have been the 7th/8th of this month I believe.

Batavia? Ehhh, it's ok, was better at the casino, the hotel is crammed & crowded & the table layout with the multiple rooms is confusing, might skip it this time. BCT was canceled, but they had "part" of it at the Broadway Market. Problem was not many vendors came & it was only a few tables.

That's because they did a lousy job promoting it. I was curious what table prices were and could find no vendor information anywhere.

I have no issue going around the Hotel for the Batavia show, the aisles are plenty wide and the majority of dealers are in either the lobby, the side room, or the main room, the other two small rooms are right off the main room and not hard to find. It certainly beats no show at all. And the main reason it's there and not say, in the Lowes they closed nearby (which would make a great event center given it has bathrooms and power and all) is because the hotel has liability insurance that the GSME would have to foot the bill for elsewhere.

So here's 2013 and 2014 -

9/14 - Elmira - TCA show - anyone go to this?
9/? - Hornell - TTCS show - cancelled
9/28 - Rochester - TCA show, Edgerton Community Center

10/6 - Buffalo (Depew) - TTCS show, Hearthstone Manor
10/13 - Batavia - GSME dealer show, Clarion Hotel
10/20 - Kingston - Kingston Fall Show, Murphy Center
10/26 - Hudson, NY - NYC Train & Toy Show, Hudson High School

11/2-11/3 - Syracuse - Great New York State Model Train Fair, Toyota Building, State Fairgrounds
11/23-11/24 - Bufffalo (Hamburg) - WNYRHS fall show, Hamburg Fairgrounds.

12/1 - Albany - Great Train Extravaganza, "Egg" Center
12/1 - Rochester - TTCS show at The Diplomat
12/8 - Solvay (Syracuse) - TCA show, Geddess Community Youth Center (last year was opposite GTE)
12/8 - North Tonowanda - TTCS - Knights of Columbus
12/8 - Glens Falls - Upstate Model Railroaders
12/14-12/15 - Rochester - Tiger Tracks show at RIT

2014

1/19 - Utica - Utica Train Show, Union Station
1/25-1/26 - Amherst (Springfield) MA - ARS huge hobby show, Eastern States Expo Center

2/9 - Buffalo - TTCS - Hearthstone Manor
2/15-2/16 - Buffalo (Hamburg) - likely date for the WNYRHS winter show, they usually don't announce it until the fall show is over.
2/24 - Syracuse - Syracuse Model Railroad Club, Eastwood

More dates TBA.

A 2014 Binghamton show (Robeson) is still unknown, last year it was opposite Hamburg.

Per Greenberg's schedule there are no upstate NY shows posted - the Halloween weekend show in Troy, the Rochester show that was at the Dome Center, the Syracuse replacement, even the Middletown show are all MIA. Shows for after April 1 are yet to be announced. There are a few open dates in their calendar but March is full.

Email to Greenberg says they are looking to replace those shows pending finding locations.

Also, I had someone tell me they were looking into doing another show in Onieda like the show the NMRA put on in 2011 at the Kallet Theatre. Will keep my ears open.

GSME Show: http://gsme.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It was better at the casino, but its better than no train show at all. Not much confusing about the layout, except for the fact that it is in multiple rooms. Just visit all the rooms, they're all connected to each other. Only a few of the small side rooms have vendors, most of the show is in the ballrooms. It's still a good show, worth going to and lending your support to.

Is there any chance it will go back to the casino?

As I understood it they were doing some work to the place which is what led to the show going out of the Casino - like a year and a half ago. I'm sure they'd like to go back, but it depends on what's going on with the room they used to use. At this point, I wouldn't hold my breath on them getting back in. If I think of it I'll ask them next month.

Thanks for your comments Otto. The Hotel has been been a good host but of course the Downs was bigger and had its advantages. Remodeling drags on and we will have to see what it looks like when done. Use of the previous space for train shows, antique shows, youth hockey and football banquets, etc., although convenient for the community means little to the state which looks at the bottom line from the gaming take. The recent deal with the Indian casinos may mean further changes as the planned gaming tables won't be going in but the final result as far as space is still up in the air.

Back in the late 80s and 90s it was in the hotel. Brings back good memories of staying overnight and heading down in the AM.

Like I said, it's too bad someone doesn't have the ability to turn that old Lowes into a banquet hall type of thing. I don't see it ever being rented out as a big store again unless Lowes decided to come back. Those stores are so big you don't even really need the whole thing, probably half the space would be enough.

Much of lowes is in the process of being turned in to a Dicks Sporting Goods which will be opening in a few weeks and the rest remodeled for another retailer.

Regarding Binghamton... a Saturday one day show?

Mahopac is getting close to the NYC market which I purposely didn't cover in this list.

Yeah, there's dozens of one day "firehall" train shows in the NYC tri-state area, too many to keep up with here.
