Union Pacific UP Big Boy 4014 Steam

If anyone is interested, 4-8-8-4 Big Boy 4014 passed its hydrostatic test. It may be in steam in time for the 150th anniversary of the Golden Spike!

As an update, they’ve done the hydrostatic test and the early live steam tests, and they are filling 3985s tender.

Yesterday, the Steam Shop in Cheyenne lit off 4014s oil burners.

A Big Boy is under steam again.

Regarding the video linked immediately by Mr. McGrath, I wonder how many of the drivers or passengers of the vehicles passing by on US30 noted the event?

OK, maybe UP is "indifferent" about handling Amtrak trains, and what someone "pulled" enabling ARRA09 funds allocated for the (?) HSR Chicago-St Louis project to be used to rebuild the G,M&O to access their Elwood IL Global Intermodal facility bordered on fraud, no one can argue against how the UP preserves and protects their heritage.
