Thanks for the update! So it appears the 4136, 4138, 4142 and the 4143 haven't been drained or OOS yet???
4138 still in Raritan tonight I am told.

4115, 4116, 4123, and 4125 are the units that went to Metro-North.

For real? I can swear it has run since then! Man, I'm too young for my memory to suck like this...
Now hold on a second here! I saw that list of F-40's too! But lo and behold, driving down Route 21 through Newark today, what did I see pushing east into Newark Penn at 2:50pm : 4116!

We have to get our lists straight here! Something ain't right! Why isn't 4116 on MNCR?

Maybe, just maybe, its now a POOL engine like every other MNRR piece of equipment?

I'd buy that if 4116 wasn't still in full NJT paint, reporting marks, and NJT number.

No MNCR markings anywhere.

What gives?

The only thing that matters is the FRA blue card in the loco's cab. That definitely says MN4116, no longer NJT4116, even though its still in full NJT paint.

I don't have the listing handy, but the MN F40's (the former NJT ones) are eventually due to be renumbered as well - i THINK the 4116 is to be the 4912?

But like mike said, they are like pool locos, and used where needed, but im sure once they get repainted by MN, they will stay on the Hobokne side at least.

Yup...
MN4115 to MN4911
MN4116 to MN4912
MN4123 to MN4913
MN4125 to MN4914

Although like Jtgshu said, the FRA Blue Card is all that matters, the AEI tags have been changed also. They didn't change their somewhat hidden location, but the marks programmed to the units are now "MN" (not MNCR or MNCW). Same as the other West of Hudson units.

Wanderer,

I know it will be a tough task, but over the next few week is it possible if you could try and find out what exactly went wrong with the 4117 and 4118.

Thanks!

Trust me, I've been trying. Nobody seems to have a clue. That one is going to have to come from an employee.

Just an observation... when the 4117 was still active, it was almost always isolated to the Hoboken Division. I only have five photos of it on the Newark Division. It was on the NJCL in July 2006 and the RVL in July 2007.

On the other hand, 4118 was almost always on the Newark side.

Yeah, I have always seen pictures of the 4117 running on the Hoboken side even as far back as the early 1980's(w/Comet I still in EL/NJDOT logos!!)

It will be sad to see her go if infact they don't repair her!

4142 had it's tank emptied today. It will be used for biodiesel fuel testing.

So I heard today thats going to be the plan. NJT wants to test engines with biodiesel and such. I assume the FHs since they are 'disposable' will be converted to burn the biodiesel type fuel thats why the tanks were drained. Apparently some other smaller transit agencys are having good success with it. Disney World in florida has converted their bus fleet over and all of their steam locomotives run on it as well. Yes steam locomotives. I'll have to do some research on it, if I remember correctly wasnt either the UTA in Utah or the Rail Runner in new mexico running on biodiesel?
