The legislation out there right now would conduct feasibility studies. As far as routes go I think the Back Road is the only viable option at this point.

It wasn't that way until a few years ago. I can remember multiple occasions where as a coach passenger I was not allowed to use the diner for any number of reasons. It wasn't a blanket policy but the bottom line is that it wasn't universal access either. I'm guessing for now Amtrak is risk averse a...

Interesting to note that Amtrak mist have participated in the associated ICC process for Conrail.

It's an interesting (and unfortunate) wrinkle that due to PRIIA the sleeper no longer runs south of Washington. Regardless it seems to be selling quite well.
Not entirely sure I ever thought of 66/67 as a state sponsored service. Odd.

Great, during the pandemic when Amtrak took half the cars out of service because they killed half the trains, they did not take the opportunity to repair them as they sat idle. Disappointing to say the least. What did they do with all the "Cares Act" funding they got last year because of ...
As a novice, I'm curious - why would a railroad oppose someone else upgrading their infrastructure? On a personal level, if I ran a railroad, and if someone promised to upgrade infrastructure to my specifications with minimal involvement or effort on my end, I'd rather take that offer than have to ...
[Now insofar as the Downeaster, doesn't the NNEPRA actually hold the contract to operate such over PAR, and Amtrak is a subcontractor with NNEPRA to provide maintained equipment and Rules Qualified, rested under HOS, Train and Engine crews? (surprise!!!!….I don't know) I am nearly certain the Opera...
I am not so confident that they will be dismissed out of hand. I do think this could be a pressure tactic related to the Gulf Coast.

It's easy to forget some of these small battles because they seem so trivial by comparison to the long term issues with the Gulf Coast corridor. My scorecard shows Amtrak 3 Freight Railroads 0 when these matters end up at the STB. 1) Those earlier cases seem to be on lightly used/abandoned trackage...
Single track with modern signals and occasional passing sidings is more than adequate. That's the magic of modern dispatching. You don't have to build two tracks in order to have fluid bi-directional operations. In the 1870s? Not so much ...

That is a really nice looking bridge abutment.

That line is almost pure passenger potential. I suspect the State will have that in mind going forward. I think that the CMQ decision was based on a desire to achieve additional revenues at the time. They don't amounts were probably meaningless.

Why not have both on each train , and charge more for the V2's. Because that could cause serious problems if one car is bad ordered. You increase complexity for only minimal return. I think the marketing angle here is talking up routes that have V-2s assigned. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
