Not sure about other later loads, but the BG location on the TRIT received four long laminated bridge beams, 2' x 4' x 65' on flat cars. I hauled them on a 60' stretch flatbed down Rt 73 to a new park that was under construction. I think this was around 1979-80 or so. I just got my new tractor about...

I came across a map on Historic Aerials, 1946 I believe, that showed the layout of South Amboy. The coal operation and shop buildings were all there, as well as that huge yard west of the C&A / NY&LB interchange. All that's left of that yard today is that long sweeping curve that runs from t...

@pdtrains: I tried that too, it said imgur was overfull and to try again later - whatever overfull means.

I'm a Belmar/ Spring Lake native. I remember a freight in Neptune/ Bradley crossing Memorial Drive in 1989 ( I was 11). I think I remember a freight (with a tank car) going through Belmar around 1983 when I was 5. I vividly remember sidings in Belmar crossing both East and West Railroad Avenues int...

If the mentioned load south/west of Red Bank happens and it's a oversize, Bradley Beach / Neptune would be the best bet for unloading, as there are two tracks in the yard, one as a runaround, with plenty of room around the tracks for unloading. That was where the old NJT coaches were scrapped. Belma...

I don't think I recall the bridge in the middle of downtown Hightstown... That one I do remember. A long one rIght in front of the fire department on an angle. And another smaller one just before it over Stockton St. They went out maybe 40 years ago, long before the highway bypass was built. Not su...

Not on the NEC, but the NJCL / NY&LB: Being resort areas, almost every station stop is within walking distance of bars and restarurants, especially Long Branch, Asbury Park, Bradley Beach, Belmar, and Point Pleasant. These stations were designed in the old downtown design, where the station is n...

What's refreshing about all of this is that no decades-long million dollar "studies" were involved, a minimum if any government roadblocks, and no NIMBY interference, just that C&D / D&RR got in there, rolled up their sleeves, and did it. Saw a need for it, and took care of it. A g...

18 cars for the Southern on Friday as per a friend… Maybe a double shipment, since Monday is Labor Day? Two days worth delivered at once to Red Bank, for D&R to deliver at their leisure? I'm presuming Woodhaven prefers twice a week with half the incoming cars at a time. Maybe CR said it would o...

I noticed next to the Rt 34 (Collingswood) overpass at Brick Recycling, sits a tank car. Is this the only customer along the SOUS with tank service? Does this get delivered before Woodhaven or do they drop/pick-up on the return trip up to RB? On the "down" trip, the siding at Brick Recycl...

Swampy in areas or not, this project is fortunate that this ROW was already in existence and didn't need various "studies". Imagine if this was a new project, building a new ROW through "endangered" wetlands and woodlands. It would take forever, if permitted at all. Thanks to the...

Charlie L, the bigger rock "base coat" is good for drainage. The smaller lighter rock on top of that is easier to level and work in and around the ties as ballast, and still good for drainage.

Reinstate some of the NJCL trains that used to terminate at Hoboken. Would take some of the pressure off NYP.
