Jersey Mike, It most certainly is rule 261 (which is a signal rule) in Krispy's statement. Automatic/Manual Block rules are just that, block rules. Signal rules and block rules are often confused, but are not the same. On both Far Rockaway and Long Beach branches, rules 501-509 (automatic block rule...
Thanks guys, this is the site I am remembering. My bookmark expired, thats why I couldn't access it.
Hi all,
I remember seeing a while ago on Amtrak's site that you can track their trains via GPS to see their engine number and location. I specifically remember being able to look in the Northeast area for trains. I can't seem to find this page again. Did they take it down?
Thanks in advance.
They tell the trains to stop and go. What's to explain???

Here's a slide scan of the engines being dropped off after being spun for the PM rush. I have another one I have to dig up of some GPs on the mainline cutoff.

Here's the 2005 running west down Montauk #1 on September 9, 1963. Slide is from my collection. Coincidentally, its one of my only C-Liner slides.
If things are still the same as years ago, the RS80 goes on duty at either 6 or 7pm and the train leaves Pond heading east around 8-830pm if they get the early slot from Jay. They return back between 2-230am. That's the train that runs usually as far as the Farmingdale and Wyandanch area. The RS51 g...
I think the 402 may be in use on the RS60 (east of KO2 train @ night) because 151/156 have been on the RS80 and 261/155 have been on the RS50. I'm guessing 402 is the middle unit between 271/268 on the RS60 since that is the longest of the three trains. It was on the RS50/51 last week paired with 26...
Portables are Motorola HT1250s. They used to be the Bendix King bricks.
RSSX #3766 is in Morris Park as of 8/25/14. Should be headed to Brookhaven any day now.
The radio above is the one the M7s, M3s and cab cars use now. A few E10/E15s have those too, but most of the diesel fleet now is equipped with the Ritron RCCR unit (which I love). The speaker above was once used on the DE/DMs when the GE radios were still in use. They work great on the MUs but for s...
Aside from a looking like a stainless steel, blue & yellow brick as well as the wheel slip system that EM2000 stated, they aren't that bad to operate. If all the Engineer's seats would swivel and have a working armrest like the engines did, we would be set. As far as practicality, the new NJT mu...
