Why did they run an inspection train ???

Is there somethig going on or soon to happen on the line ???

Or was it just the suits out for a ride ?

Anyone got a clue what this geep was hauling, going East through Mamaroneck at around 11.20 today? Never seen cars like these before:

Apologies for the lousy photography; only had a tiny pocket cam with me!

Thanks

That's the "inspection train" used by the executives to tour the property and entertain guests. MN 1, MN 2, MN 3. MN 1 and 2 are ex-DL&W tavern-lounge cars from the Phoebe Snow. MN 3 is an old NYC stainless coach or lounge. Occasionally MN 1 and 2 are used in excursion service.

Here's what the inside looked like before rebuilding...

They also served on the LIRR in palour car service after 1970.

A drawing of one of the Phoebe snow obs in service:

They still look like that inside, even after rebuilding. Happily, the interior is almost as-built by Budd in 1949. :-)

By the way...look for them to be in Hoboken later this week...they'll be doing the annual tour of the Pascack Valley and Port Jervis lines on Friday.

Don't they need the head end power?
