First the Deerfield drama for 08-7-2018: Abutments are in place for a new McClelland Farm Road OHB -- AKA "The Railfans' Bridge" -- and it looks like the approach will be altered, as well. Besides that and about 0600, the only visible activity was a boom truck picking up ties. The yard radio was inactive, also.
At around 0508, D-3 and 23K had talked, the E saying that the C would be dealing with 15 handbrakes, and D-3 saying they'd be there awhile, "there" being Tyters, assuming the lines of wells and containers on the 1 with NS 9904 and couldn'tseewhatelse might be trailing power. The EB for Tyters was a Stop, so it seemed like nobody would be going anywhere soon. There was also some D-3 talk about 22K, cancelling at least 1 08-07 Form D, mebbe to a TC. NS 9140 -- 22K? -- would get a Form D with a Line 4 cuzza the washout, radio reception being too spotty for better details. To finish off 23K, D-3 would tell a TC at 1247 that 23K was about 3/4 of the way to Shelburne, and at 1325, WB containers were visible across the Deerfield and through the trees at Charlemont. Until after 0800, the fog along both the Millers and Deerfield Rivers was heavy enough. Around 1340, 28N called out an Approach for 381, so either way late or way early. Also, there was track equipment sitting just west of the Erving waste water facility.
Generations of railroaders and civilians got their caffeine and fat from Erving's Boxcar, and it is again possible to do just that, but not in the time-honored form. Assuming the sign out front is to be believed, hand-made chocolates are now available there. Gentrification in Erving?
