An ALC-42E battery equipped locomotive would not be the appropriate solution for an electrified corridor throughout Virginia. A battery equipped ACS64 locomotive would be instead to run on electricity through a tunnel without catenaries. But let's get realistic, Virginia is not going to be able to electrify both the NS and CSX corridors anytime soon, if ever. The ALC-42 non battery equipped locomotive is the better near term solution, and is what Amtrak is buying. Running on electricity north of DC, and on diesels south of DC.
