Since SLE operates with Amtrak crews, you'd probably have to get a job with Amtrak.

But then how do they assign that job then. Would you have to be a NHV based crew?

Ask in the Amtrak or the Employment forum.

T & E are Amtrak crews out of NHV. There overseen by CDOT. What job are you looking for, MGMT. or Road Crews. There is not a seperate roster for the SLE crews.

If Amtrak or any other railroad finds it necessary to hire, preference should first be given to the loads of railroad people
who are either furloughed or laid off from one of the freight railroads, there are plenty of them probably looking for
railroad work.

Road Crew, preferably Conductor.

If you want to be a Conductor then you will have to hire out with Amtrak. With the New Haven crew base shrinking because of the thru trains from BOS-NYP, your chances of holding a SLE job are slim to none for your first few years. When the MNRR M8's come into service you will hear the rumours that the Metro North crews will takeover the service. This topic has been discussed to death on this forum. If I were to choose between the 2 RR's I would apply to MNRR over Amtrak, it's a no brainer unless you forsee moving out of the area soon. Amtrak has a National roster.

Is there a general application for Metro North?

Go to mta.info and put the cursor on Metro-North Railroad and drag down to employment. Look under craft postings.

Actually, most of the C-Dot jobs are no over-time, so there are a few that noone's interested in.
