these are fantastic! I model the L&HR in the spring of 67' and by then the operations had changed a little from this, but these stories and antidotes are priceless when it comes to understanding how the railroad worked.
That station was shared between the DLW and the CNJ, NS uses the CNJ route through town and over the bridge, then directly back to the LV mainline at Lehigh Jct where the 3 bridges converge, by the big rock cut (known as "Mount Ida")
historically, what was Dunkirks yard purpose, was it for local classification (local freights east to valley stream/long beach/W. Hempstead and the like)?
valley stream has pretty much sucked since slipped disc closed.
I left williamsburg at 1am and made it back home at about 5am about 45 minutes later then usual, all things considered, not that bad.
Moaning Scums books are 50 dollar slideshows and nothing more, the only one I own that I was pleased with and provided good information was the Jim Boyd/Tracy Antz L&HR book. You don't buy these things expecting a give-all-know-all about the territory/railroad they are covering. Just pretty pict...
I believe its a marking to tell normal well adjusted people and railfans that approaching them would be a bad idea.
Oh for the days when Hudson line railfans didn't stand there and yell at passing trains like goddamned retards.

9:45PM westbound past New South RD in Hicksville, no idea what #'s all I was across a parking lot and it was dark, a 38 was in the lead.
