That's never been the American convention. In the US, a "4400 hp" diesel is supposed to put 4400 hp into the main generator/alternator for traction purposes; 85%? of that will appear at the wheel rims.

The platform between tracks 2 and 3 at Rahway was a high level-- dunno until when. 1950s? I assume when they removed it they didn't replace it with anything, but for all I know maybe it was a low-level platform for an unknown period after the high-level was removed. Don't plan on seeing a pic of a l...

Somewheres around 1911. The intention was to have six tracks all the way to Lane. Remember that plan to build a freight line from Morrisville, running south of Trenton to rejoin the four-track main around Colonia? The six tracks Elmora-Union was the first part of that plan. Ever notice how Rahway ha...

On SF Muni you can use the senior Clipper card, or just pay the $1 cash fare. No driver has ever asked me for ID.

When you pay cash on Muni, the driver hands you a paper transfer that you stick in your pocket, as a fare receipt, even if you're not going to transfer.

I meant, what makes you think original-style cab cars got converted to something else. Reportedly BART's original 1969 order was for 150 cab cars and 100 midtrain cars-- and that's what Rohr ended up building? So that does raise the question, what's become of those cab cars. What were they converted...

It comes through @ an average of 95 mph (it is still accelerating), which is very respectable acceleration based on the starting point.
Both engines must be powering it?

Powering all eight traction motors from one alternator would involve enough pointless complication that I'm guessing it's out of the question. Most likely no mention of it in the operator manual
