They're models designed
for export. That is, North American manufacturers have "domestic" and "export" product lines. US, Canada and Mexico all order "domestic" models, with a few exceptions which are the subject of this thread. There are far more cases of non-North American railroads using "domestic" models. "Export" is generally shorthand for "lower axle load and smaller clearances".
Fan of late and early Conrail... also transition-era PRR, 70s Santa Fe, BN and SP, 70s-80s eastern CN, pre-merger-era UP, heavy electric operations in general, dieselized narrow gauge, transition-era DB and DR, modern EFVM and Brazilian railroads in general... why bother trying to list them all?
