You can get shots with them in it, but thats really asking for trubble, you get spotted you better run or you will be called in, try to do it in a non noticable way, and never make your self look suspicious, also never park in any view a operator has

Here are a few shots I've taken over the past few years at B Tower. Wish there were more pictures taken there by others, but it seems to be an unphotographed location. It's my favorite spot, too bad they are building new houses all around it. It's not the serene location it used to be.

Hi mc367,

You can shoot at Mineola and get “Nassau” in the photos. Most of the towers that are near stations can be easily framed in a photo with an oncoming train. One thing is for sure, you won’t have any problems photographing at PD tower!

Nice photos Joe! I like the shot from the GP38 cab, and the timeless B&W out of B tower.

Divde, Nassau, Queens, Babylon, Valley, Hall, Jay, Dunton, Operating

Did i leave any critical onces out? Is harold controled by PSCC?
You forgot LEAD, M Cabin and BROOK.

VAN recently closed (R-BROOK) and I am unsure of the fate of EAST NEW YORK.

HAROLD is usually R-PSCC, but from what I have heard it can operate in an as-needed basis.
So there are about 10 all together that are still in operation and PD is to be shut down next year. Is that the plan for all of the towers, to be shut down within a few years?
PD may or may not be R-BABYLON or it might be installed in a yard office or station office. The LIRR is pretty committied to the efficienty and flexibility that block stations provide. In the JAY/HALL resignaling the plan is for both towers will remain open with central supervision. The PATH once tried to close its towers, but found that remote dispatchers couldn't keep the trains running on time and re-opened them.

I took a trip out to PD and have a number of photos online at:

I have a bunch more tower photos online at:

So the Long Island has a problem with photography? Sort of like NJ Transit or it's just in some cases.

Any reason why it's easier to shoot at PD?

Once again thanks for the help

mc367,

Our good friend FlaEastCoastChris here on RR.net owns a job in PD tower and I'm sure if you show your face around Patchogue and take a few pictures, you would have no problem at all with police.

Here's one more shot of B tower and a few of PD:

LIRR doesn't have any rule against photography/videography like NJT does(or did???). The engineers are just asked by the higher ups to call in photographers(which I've been learning the hard way recently. Stopped at PW 2 days ago for the FOURTH time, or was that the 5th....I lost count already! That's how many times I've been stopped just at PW!).

Hi everyone,

I have some current photos at a few towers in my webshots, but for some of the fans of the old equipment here are some photos for you. I’ve been digging through some of my dad's old slides… He has LOTS of old LIRR photos and color sound movies, a big fan of the ALCO’s... So here are some slides scanned in from the early 70’s, enjoy

Leased Precision GP-7/9 heads east with Nassau in the view

MP-54’s at Valley, you can see the roof of the tower in this photo.

Which train would you rather be on???

Hope you guys like a "blast from the past",

Which train would you rather be on???
That's a "no-brainer" for a dinosaur like me!!!

I choose the train on the left and I want to look out the front owl-eye window next to the motorman!

"Can I pull the horn cord? Huh? Can I, Can I, Can I?"

Thanks for the help everyone, and great shots, I really like those night shots emfinite.

Intresting to see towers, color position lights, and the "hooping" of train orders (not sure that's the tec term for it). Very intresting railroading down there.

the old pictures are awesome. Here we go again, trains painted in colors have so much more personality than these silver soda cans of today.
