What's The Deal With Breakneck Ridge?

What's the deal with the Breakneck Ridge station? On the outbound side there are what appears to be 2 platforms, about 1/2 mile apart, one down by the double tunnels, the other up at the ped overpass. The station sign is by the double tunnel platform.

On the inbound side there's a platform just up at the ped bridge.

So which outbound platforms are supposed to be used?

only the ones at the pedestrian bridge are in service

I thought breakneck was some 2 foot forest station for hikers only.
