I used to railfan this spot, right where the lead truck of the front locomotive is, back in my college days circa 1980, when there was no fence there and this was home to a different kind of E44.

The Holiday Inn next to FEMA and across the street from the Department of Education is awesome and a better view. I got a room two years ago that I could see L'Enfant VRE station and the mainline was 10 ft from the window. CSX and VRE all the time. The first time I went to this hotel I saw the Tropicana Train. I recommend that hotel.
