Given the size of GWI's rail holdings, it's hard to believe the growing pains when they first began expanding from a small salt-hauler to something bigger. But things were not easy. In its infancy R&S arranged to lease the LV 211, now at the RGVRR Museum but privately owned at that time. But there were some delays in getting the 211 ready to send to R&S and they were faced with such a severe power shortage that they were in danger of being unable to serve important customers, which included General Motors' Delco plant.

Fortunately, the excursion season had not yet started, and so help was available from another shortline - Livonia Avon & Lakeville. Conrail moved LA&L's #38 from Avon to Genesee Junction, where R&S lost no time putting it to work. It's shown here switching the Conrail interchange at Lincoln Park, with the now-gone RG&E Station 9 in the background. Alas, the 211 soon arrived, and #38 was returned to Lakeville before most fans even knew of its service.

Wow, tough crowd! (or indifferent). 3 days, over 125 views, and nobody picked up on the posting date and hollered BS? I'd better turn myself in, before somebody takes it seriously and passes it along as "truth" :P :P :P
