Valhalla RR Crossing Accident 4/19/14

Around 9:30 our fire department heard over the radio (60 control) that there was a MVA with Metro North train involved. The incident took place at the Valhalla RR Crossing via Howard ave, and the Bronx river. FD on scene reported The car was fully engulfed. Valhalla FD reported to 60 control they had to wait until all trains were halted, and that third rail was De-energized. All passengers made it out of car safely. I don't know much more about the incident, but that its being investigated.

According to the Urinal News (for what that's worth) there was no train involved, only that a car hit the third rail. Possibly it was another case of a GPS telling the driver to turn onto the tracks instead of the parkway?

VALHALLA – A car caught on fire on the railroad tracks by the Cleveland Street crossing shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday, officials said.

No one appeared to have been hurt. Officials believe the vehicle struck the third-rail on the tracks and then caught fire. A conductor on a train that had passed by the area only minutes earlier said there had been no collision with the vehicle on the tracks, Metro-North spokeswoman Marjorie Anders said.

Power to tracks in a six mile radius of Cleveland Street were de-energized to allow for the car to be removed, she said. Passengers on the Harlem Line experienced some delays as a result of the incident, Anders said.
