Railroad riders who commute from Larchmont have no shiny new trains in their immediate future, but they can at least look forward to a spruced-up station.

Metro-North Railroad has begun making $12.4 million in improvements to the village station. With 3,736 weekday riders, it is the railroad's ninth busiest suburban stop. The work, expected to be completed by January 2006, is the biggest single station project the railroad plans to start this year. It will be done in stages to keep trains and riders moving.
