To celebrate the restoration of electric service to Southampton Station, the Southampton Railroad Station Society will
light up the station for a special evening photo shoot of the building and grounds. The exterior will be lit by special high wattage incandescent lighting for night time photography. Bring your cameras to capture still or video shots of
Southampton Station as it has never been captured on film before.

I was by the station for the first time in quite a while this week and was impressed by what the group is doing. For those who haven't seen it - the platforms have been spruced up, platform lights, signal mast and signal junction box painted, the ROW is clear and the rails have been given a "shine" (silver paint on the railheads) plus the insulators painted yellow.

To anyone in the know....what kind of shape is the interior in and is there a timetable for it to be opened to the public?

For a little photography to the context, humorously I was at Southampton on Sunday.

Nice pictures, Adam; thanks for sharing them with us. I couldn't help but think that a comparison/contrast with your pix alongside vintage pix of Reading trains coming and going from Southampton would be very interesting indeed.

Way ahead of you. Take a look at http://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/7 ... 0812815440

I set this up last night and showed it off a little. For the record, the photo linked is from 1981, I wrote 29 to match years without service.

I am confused by the statement about "the restoration of electric service", please explain? It sounds misleading, as in the restoration of electric *train* service.

No, this is restoration of PECO electric utility service to the building. The station has apparently been without utilities for quite some time.
