The Comaros that were in Canada i BELIEVE are out in Port Morris.....IIRC, the Comaros that went to Amtrak were stored at MMC for a while, then went to the Morristown and Erie for work then they were shipped out.

JT,

What happened with that proposed deal to send the Comet cars in Raritan to some new tourist train outfit in Pa... Did that deal fall through?? I had thought that individual bought about 10 of the cars in Raritan!

As far as I know, they are still the owner of the cars, and was out there a few weeks ago checking up on them. Its all 11 (i believe) Comet 1s that are out there - I think its 3 cab cars and 8 coaches

Why are the getting rid of equipment that is still good? I would think they would want some equipment in reserve. That's why they converted those old Arrow I MU cars for locomotive-hauled operation. That gave them an extra thirty or so cars.

Good for a tourist operation is completely different than good for the daily grind of commuter operations. The Comet Is time has passed.

if that is the case there are plenty of stored serviceable Comet III cars that can be used if they really had a need to add more cars to trains rather than trying to patch the comet 1 cars back together every moment.

That was also in 1987 time frame before the second order of Comet 2s was delivered and all the non HEP cars were taken out of service. There was a need for quick and cheap equipment and they had the cars laying around (for about 10 years I think, they were sitting a LONG time).

Now, there is plenty of equipment around. If they needed cars quickly, they could get the Comet 3s running if they had to

Amtrak did the same with the Metroliners around the same time. They (with the exception of the Capitoliners running between Philadelphia & Harrisburg) were mothballed for some time before being converted into push-pull units compatible with Amfleets.

There were some, I couldn't see how many or their numbers, but some Comet 1s in the MMC on Fri, looked to be on the North Runner in the 25kv yard. Id ASSUME they came from Raritan as they are the only Comet 1s I know around, but im not certain.

It should have been 4 Comet 1's, all trailers.

Well at least 3 Comet Is carried several hundred passengers including Santa Claus and Mrs. Clause on the EL this weekend. First at the Delaware Water Gap (first ticket sold there in 53 years!), then Cresco and finally Tobyhanna.
