Re: NJT Locomotives over the years

Interesting comment about the F-7 units. Of course, an F-7, as built, was 1500 hp, and likely was further reduced by HEP demands. And they're old. One of the last trains that I ran in 2006 had an F-7 on one end with a combine with a generator for HEP, 8 coaches, 1 private business car, and a GP-7 a...

From what i understand, then as well as now, quite a selection of engines and coaches was seen on the erie lines in the 1970s: F7s, E8s, uboats, etc. as well as stillwells and pullman comets.

This should be a marked improvement over what is there now, but my generation can only imagine what it was like to walk through the original station. Luckily, some good photos and documentaries exist detailing the gargantuan masterpiece.

Locomotives on both ends

Not sure if this belongs here, but this morning metro north ran train 71 with a comet ii, 2 comet vs, and locomotives on both ends (NJT Geep on east and MNR F40 on west). There is a slight but noticeable difference in the ride, especially when accelerating out of stations. What were the circumstance...

I doubt this will happen until the roads are reconfigured. Though it is great that cuomo wants this, the local community might again object as they did before.

Any news on this project? What would be the harm in instituting a shuttle from Sls Mls station to the airport, or for that matter any kind of taxi service?

Does anyone have photos of the interiors of the West of Hudson RDCs used by mnr/njt in the 80s and 90s?

It's a sorry state of affairs. While I am enthusiastic about Trump' s infrastructure proposals, seeing as how he is from the NY area and any kind of public - private sector collaboration might jive well, Im afraid other more pressing issues like public safety in the wake of mass shootings will take ...

This may not happen for a while, from what I understand. While it would be nice for central NJ commuters, track capacity and the already overcrowded Penn Station preclude any kind of substantial improvement to ny nj one seat service, at least for the foreseeable future.

I seriously doubt that any rail line will ever follow this route again, but perhaps (not in my lifetime), a new high-speed route will be constructed between Suffern and Tarrytown, following the I-87287 corridor, with junction to the Pascack Valley line at Spring Valley, a new bridge over the Hudson...

OK. Thats what i thought. Historically, does anyone know if the standard gauge width was initiated by the federal govt back then?

Track gauge question

This may be a silly question, but when the MTA/conrail took over the bankrupt railroads, including those west of hudson, did each of them have a different track width? I know the Erie used the widest gauge at 6'. Did the Fed's set a standard or did they just use different equipment to accommodate?

I guess the MTA is living up to its acronym: Might Take Awhile...

Sorry, i couldn't resist :-D :P

The point is not that the MTA is not claiming its Ada compliant, it's that there is a growing number of people wanting the agency to accommodate the public's needs.
