Re: Lackawanna Cutoff Passenger Service Restoration

With regards to NJT west of Andover. This is again, totally up to NJT. I personally think they should operate to East Stroudsburg or Analomink and have a yard track. If NJT still wants to operate to Scranton, I'm sure they can work something out. But we're talking about 10 years down the road at the...

Not to mention NJT had the DWG, Analomink, and Tobyhanna stops, along with the Greendell MOW facility it would do on its own during that time. If they so choose to.

It is a question whether or not the priority is there right now. I would love service to Englewood (and north, but well, NJ Transit bent to Tenafly). But if NJ Transit can't the get the funding, well, not much we can do. Screwed up way things are, but alas. In the meantime, we really should spend to...

I've said it many times, Amtrak's best schemes are dark blue and darker shades of red. If all their equipment was that, it would be a much nicer fleet. The silver paints just don't work nowadays

Re: New Station at North Brunswick?

Very surprised a) they chose Adams and b) they chose to island platform it. Seems like it would be easier to double-side it, but I understand the decision making.

As rail technology gets better, eventually the chances of a derailment go down. Not to mention the NJ Transit stretch is almost entirely straight. I really would not be rushing this line because of the Northeast Corridor. Again, NJ Transit's priorities need to be elsewhere.

If I remember the original proposal, the Bridgewater option was on the table. I don't know if that a) it's still on the table; b) if there's ever a chance. Anything that requires operating service on a track owned by 1 of the 2 monarch freights is a tough ask. Realistically any service NJ Transit wo...

I don't think anyone is questioning the chances it's happening any time soon. My entire argument is be where NJT's priorities should be and its elsewhere on the RVL. But I'm still out to poke holes in the arguments.

I could propose we re-align the LVRR alignment 4 feet west and NS would throw a fit. Unfortunately this entire project suffers from 1 of the 2 monarchs of northeastern freight getting themselves involved. it doesn't seem like the value of the project is there right now. The agency should have higher...

The problems I explained last year aren't just on the ex-Reading main. Where are we getting all this extra train capacity on the RVL and at Newark Penn? There's no room for 4 tracks on the RVL anymore. You'd have a better chance finding capacity if you can switch the West Trenton Line to the LVRR be...

Could be that station platforms like Bradley Beach are relatively short, and cheaper to build to a high level. Bradley is one street block long, while Belmar and Spring Lake are two street blocks long or longer. A little at a time, maybe? Bradley Beach, Anderson Street and New Bridge Landing/North ...

Chatham and Orange Stations are only getting planning work, not actual construction (as described by the FTA's summary) as they are on curves that prohibit HLPs without mechanical extensions. That's why those stations are sharing a $1.4M grant while the others have substantially larger budgets. I f...

NJ Transit gets $34M to make 5 train stations more accessible. Here’s what that buys. The $1.7 billion federal program, created in July, is designed to make hundreds of old subway and commuter rail stations accessible to people with mobility issues — from those in wheelchairs to parents with kids i...

Obviously if this all starts, at least Bay St. Louis is ready to go. I've not seen photos on the 3 other Mississippi stations, but the ones of BSL have gotten around that platforms and signage are in place.
