Was on the train today in Braddock Inn. Great trip. We pretty much held 50 all the way out the Lehigh Line with some minor exceptions... Trip up the Washington Secondary was slow, as expected. The trip up the M&E felt fast - phone died so I lost my speedometer... We only slowed down a few times,...
Yes.. @ 2828 MW (2.28GW) we would not need a bolt of lightning, plutonium or Mr. Fusion to make time travel possible with some generous (88%) overhead! Of course, the flux capacitor would still be needed.
Max power from diesel engine - 2828MW With 6 MLs, average HEP consumption is about 300kw, sometimes higher sometimes lower, depending on temperature, if AC or heat is on, number of open cars, etc Often shows "traction horsepower" of around 4050HP on average (it fluctuates). Something does...
JT / 66 - thanks for the follow-up on the ALP-46 direction change. In my original question, I was only thinking about the lowering pantograph breaking a current carrying circuit which it is. Since the other pantograph is up, however, the voltage differential between the lowering pan and the overhead...
I will be in Braddock Inn...
The problem isnt' so much the roof line or where the pan sits when its lowered, but rather how close the pan is to the wire when its lowered. There isn't enough clearance to guarantee that you won't arc from the wire to the pan when its in its lowered position, thats why they don't want it dropped ...
As I was leaving NYP this evening on NJT 3117 (7:13 pm departure) I saw an NS (Conrail?) local pulling three NS Passenger Cars on the head end as I was headed over the saw-tooth bridge crossing the M&E. The train was coming in off the Newark freight bypass. I am not sure of the NS (Conrail) trai...
They can't be run in electric mode in Hoboken - so going to change modes twice from Bay Head to Hoboken? Running them in straight diesel mode to Hoboken from Raritan? Why cant the 45s run electric in Hoboken? Out of curiosity, I second the question... Why can't the 45s operate in e-mode in Hoboken?...
Yes, they've built themselves into a hole in Summit. To get more clearance in Summit, they'd have to lower the roadbed. Are you saying the track is too high at Summit, Nick? :) If there was any place that they could undercut the roadbed to increase clearances.......... Yes, because the bridges are ...
The bedroom suite one I think is the one that irks me a bit, the rest are acceptable. Makes sense with the insurance on the old passenger cars and the like. On a side note, 3010 seems to be Norfolk Southern's go to locomotive if they are asked to help out with special occasions in the NJ region, I ...
On Amtrak, your entire ticket appears under one QR code. Each leg must be completed before you can commence with the next. If you make a mid-trip change, you need to re-print your ticket (if PDF), but your iPhone (or Android) QR code will always be valid. If you do not complete your first leg there ...
Yes, ThirdRail, I understand what you are saying about boarding the wrong train or , for that matter, the wrong service! Sometimes the Darwin Award has its costs. Its only fair that the winner has to "pay" their prize :-) In response to both your point and 66's point: 1) They are at least ...
Service disruptions are covered in the FAQ on the NJT website http://www.njtransit.com/var/var_servlet.srv?hdnPageAction=MobileTicketingTo Q: If I activate a ticket and then experience an extended service disruption lasting longer than two hours, will my ticket be accepted at the fare gates at Secau...
I remember being at church in Chatham NJ that morning and the snow starting. It was comming down at a good clip when we left for the city from Maplewood that afternoon (1:00 ish...) and by nightfall was very heavy. I never said things were perfect.... But things were still operating into and out of ...
