Re: SEPTA Rebuilding for the Future Updates

Option 1 is the best in my opinion, as it doesn't require any of the annoying transfers in Option 2, and has plenty of room for expansion/better headways, should the funding and personnel become available. Doesn't option 1 require a bunch of double tracking in places? Or at the minimum more sliding...

I agree. Option 1 probably the best bang for the buck and something I could support. Then vot...

Here is a link to the report via Railway Age. The Keystone Service seems to be having very low recovery.
Which is bizarre, because every train is packed.

All: The FRA just released their report on Amtrak OTP. More of the usual, with freight trains accounting for the harsh majority of delays. That having been said, they included cost recovery as a metric, and it is interesting to see which trains are now making their money back. According to the repor...

TS3 apparently tested on the NEC in Jersey last night.

Thank you all for the advice. I did indeed ride 48 in one of the VIIs. I cannot see a world in which I would've preferred a toilet in my room instead of just the sink. I think I'd be pretty uncomfortable sleeping next to that. Getting up and going to the bathroom was fine. The car tracked ok. Not gr...

Makes sense. All that work done for the Acela IIs only for their deployment to be delayed. Might as well use it.

Why in the Sam Hill is the baggage dorm behind the sleepers? Sheesh. Does Amtrak even understand consist building? I think it makes perfect sense. Baggage cars tend to be at either end of the train, and by attaching it to the sleepers (with the dorm side towards the rest of the consist) you make it...

There is allegedly a demonstration car in Philadelphia on Washington Avenue.

I think this will get support from Harrisburg as Republican and Democratic controlled counties are behind it, but I am curious why Amtrak and this authority are trying to do the same thing? I cannot imagine Norfolk Southern would want to both of these operators out there. I think it's mentioned som...

I don't know why anyone would take a train like the Zephyr to go to a national park anyways, for the above reasons. If Amtrak were to market those trips as "the vacation," it would only really apply to people whose destination with Amtrak is their turnaround point: ie, San Fran from Chicag...

I just flew Spirit to Florida and everything was packed. What is the issue with Amtrak? Inability to alleviate staffing shortfalls? I can only imagine the amount of business they're turning away as the fleet wastes away in storage. Actually as far as Florida goes Amtrak is running with record level...
