It figures the MBTA would go with CAF. Cracks were discovered in the wheel arches of the CAF Urbos 3 trams https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-11-06/images-of-sydney-inner-west-light-rails-cracks-emerge/100600216#:~:text=Cracks%20in%20the%20wheel%20arch%20were%20found%20on,the%20Central%20to%20Dulwich...

So by the time Charlie Card II is ready, the culture of fare evasion should be well established. You must have missed the study where the costs of complete fare recovery (from station dwell times for surface vehicles) and/or enforcement outweighs letting a little bit of fare evasion go. Larger and ...

Remember that AFC 2.0 will be an honor/proof of payment system when it comes to boarding vehicles.

When I was at Latin (class of '09), student passes were good up to Zone 2 (which covers the entire Needham line) and I noticed that the BC High students who live in Braintree can take a faster ride between JFK/UMass and Braintree. The commuter rail is free up to Zone 2 during the OL shutdown anyway.

Metra BNSF Line Questions

I'll be in Chicago in a couple weeks and plan on going for a joyride on the BNSF line for the whole length (I'll buy the $10 Ventra day pass in the app) I have a few questions: 1. How often do trains run late? 2. I read somewhere that all trains originate in Aurora. Does that mean that westbound tra...

My state senator William Brownsberger is VERY responsive, I approve of his voting record, and I've never not had an issue addressed by him, including issues involving the MBTA. He also has a mailing list and website where he explains every position that he takes, and also asks for constituent input ...

The operator doesn't have to lean out. There are platform cameras that give a full view of the platform, and there is a screen at the front of the platform where the operator can see from the cab.

I wonder if they did a study to see if would be feasible to put the burden of the cost to operate the NH portion on the rider's fare to cross the state line? SEPTA operates under this model. Fares to the stations in New Jersey costs a few dollars more because the service across the state line is uns...

I would imagine that the bus operators that have the duopoly on the route (Concord Coach and Greyhound) would put up a stiff fight.

I don't remember if they added it to the vending machines, but it's definitely doable at a retail sales outlet and at North/South/Back Bay stations as they all use the same machines.

Well, I can see a few issues with making the MBTA fare free. 1. For rapid transit, fares paid at fareboxes, as well as tap ins with charlie cards and charlie tickets, are the way that they measure ridership right now. If they make fares free, they'd lose this source of rideship data, and would have ...

Type 7s have PCC style (which is similar to automotive style) foot pedals with the power on the right, and the brake to the left of it, and a deadman pedal for the left foot. Type 8s have a power handle on the left side where at rest, it points toward the front. The operator has to turn it 90 degree...

The Type 9s currently can't run on the street running portion of the E branch because of the plug doors. There's nowhere to display the STATE LAW - STOP signs that are present on the folding doors of the Type 7s and Type 8s (that most motorists ignore anyway)
