The conductor is responsible for the safe movement of the train, and part of that is protecting his/her fellow crew members. It is not your train, they can enforce the rules they see fit for the safe movement of the train. You sound very selfish when you take it personally, IMO. If you actually stoo...
CVR, 5050 only runs on summer Fridays and is the EQ for 254, not 256.
All the bogies are still there. They moved all but one of the gondolas from ye old LILCO track.
I believe only the cab cars have bathrooms, thus the need for so many cab cars.
You're missing the point. It's one thing to cutback service, but it's another to forget to change connections and other blatant mistakes that will add over an hour of extra travel time for intra-island passengers. It has nothing to do with delaying the work in Harold, the point is that when special ...
The catenary extends onto the Empire Connection the same distance as the third rail, but I have a feeling they'll just go into Penn on diesel mode and shut the engines down upon arrival into the station.
Just to be clear on this:
The bypass was going to go under the existing Line 4 and 2 from North to South to allow Amtrak trains the ability to not mingle with LIRR trains? And the trench between F and Harold was part of it, correct?
So, per the numbers provided from back in 2004: The final figures for the U.S. Open LIRR service, as per the LIRR employee newsletter, are: Nearly 75,000 customers total Saturday 16,744 Sunday 15,213 Friday 14,072 Thursday 12,813 Wednesday 7,629 Tuesday 4,959 Monday 2,985 Train 2602 on Thursday was ...
I think Servoli foods was the last attempt at freight down there before LIRR threw in the towel. There was a promotional LIRR leaflet about LIRR trying to bring back freight in the early 90's and that was one of the places mentioned. Newsday actually ran a few articles on LIRR attempting to revive ...
If I'm not mistaken, that car is now a part of a restaurant adjacent to the railroad tracks in Stony Brook.
It takes 1 minute to travel a mile at 60 mph (so about 4 minutes at 15 mph). I think that's a place to start with your math.
Excellent map, CR. Thank you for that.
That siding in Setauket was double ended until the mid-2000s when the east switch was removed. Then when they put concrete ties in all the way out, they removed the rest of it. It's use was very limited if at all.
You are correct, freightguy. The switch and crossing are both long removed. The switch was removed in the time frame between this photo and 1991. The crossing lasted a little longer (Parsonage Road is the name). I myself am curious as to where that road led to based off of how things are today. Righ...
The "hoarding"of equipment without having a facility to actually preserve equipment needs to addressed. It is very generous of any railroad to just give away a piece of equipment, especially cars with some sort of historical significance. However, as has been learned (hopefully): more is n...
