I'd buy a couple. One if they make them too expensive. More if they were not too expensive.

There is some old information in a thread from 2006 ... http://www.railroad.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=28636 A specific post on the issue ... http://www.railroad.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=284909#p284909 This morning I phoned Metra and spoke first to John Gottlieb, Metra's Manager of Special Service...
the Bi-levels still being worked off peak or mixing in after rush regulars? The South Shore runs 43 trains each day (21 west, 22 east) ... 10 of those trains are being covered by 300 series cars. Two are peak westbounds (the first from Michigan City 4:03a arriving 5:43a, the second from Gary at 7:5...
For whatever reason, the people on the Metra Electric seem to be extremely picky about photography, in that they'll tell you to stop it. If this happens, go shoot the South Shore. That is a shame ... I wonder if they would bother me if I visited Kensington, 63rd, Hyde Park, McCormick and the Museum...
When the State of IL car was making the rounds on UP a few months ago, it pretty much divided its time between locals and expresses (depending on the equipment rotation for that particular day), so I don't there's any sort of restrictions on precisely which trains get the car. But if Metra were to ...
The crews are and were regularly assigned by their run picks (which are doled out by seniority), *however*, other crew members not currently assigned to gallery car runs were also (and continue to be) brought in selectively to work the trains alongside "mentors" to show them how to operat...
The bi-levels, at last check, are currently assigned to trains 102, 203, 212, 107, 118, 215, 220, 119 (first set), and 114, 211 (second set). Very good reception from the peak customers who are just seeing them for the first time. It's only been three days, but it looks like the changes are well re...
I have not seen any media reports but the board meeting should have been held Friday morning approving the new weekend schedule.
Does anyone know if the new schedule was approved or if there are changes/delays to the change?

If all freights took the siding there is would be need for a gauntlet at all. South Shore Freight would lose the storage space and a run around but Bailly / Dune Acres is close enough. I noticed MoW out working on the siding last week. I've noticed that the gauntlets at Hammond and Hegewisch are dee...
I agree ... Gary needs to be a full gauntlet station like East Chicago when they put in a raised platform there.
Dune Park is a much better station to improve first ... and a lot cheaper (only one platform/gauntlet to install and all at ground level with no embankment widening needed).
I saw 306 and 309 leading the gallery trains today (116 and 109 respectively). I didn't catch the other car numbers. I was wondering if the cars were going to get rotated through in revenue service before the runs next week. I also got a peak inside the cab from the platform at Hammond ... looks lik...
The 300 series cars are just the opposite of the 100 series. The east end of all cars is designated the F end and the west end is the B end. Even-numbered 300 series cars have the cab on the F (east) end; odd-numbered cars have the cab on the B (west) end. ??? The pictures I've taken and seen have ...
I think I misread the previous posts ... what I was referring to is the practice of permanently facing even-numbered cars one direction and the odd ones the other. Something to do with the MU hookups and such. The South Shore typically keeps the same side of their cars facing south (west in Chicago...
I understand they are married pairs ... Like the Metra Electric gallery cars and the South Shore 100 series, the new 300's are not married pairs; they are single units with a cab at one end only. Half of the cars have the cab on the east end and the other half have the cab on the west end. And NICT...
