There's no need for high platforms. Level boarding is what speeds service. The new Metra traincar by Alstom will have that.

Mostly, light rail doesn't really meet the needs of NYC - ROW is at such a premium and higher-than-bus-density service should be integrated into the existing system. The IBX could yet be light rail, which would seam reasonable - compare the Paris orbital trams.

Princeton Junction station is an excellent place to watch from since it is right in the middle of the high speed area. The corridor is heavily tree-lined so it might be hard to find a picnic spot.
