That only works if there's a layshaft handle... EFI engines don't
On the railroad units its usually obvious that something gone seriously wrong and with a CO2 system it would be easy for the crew to stop the engine before it self destructs. You might think that... but when it's spinning in excess of Notch 8 on its own lube oil... screaming bloody murder... things...
You could start up another thread for the opposite... how to stop a stubborn engine that won't. I've had a GE FDL that was burning its lube oil... had to empty a few fire extinguishers into the intake filters to starve it for air... finally died. And an EMD a while back that wouldn't stop unless you...
I can't stand that damned window popping up! Always happens when you're trying to arm the EOT! I wish they'd spend the extra $1 and have the bell come on when you blow the horn too... What I find annoying is the lack of consistency in the CN units now. It seems every one is different from the next....
Next time just shut off the control/fuel pump switch on the control stand and the control breaker in the panel..
I got a chance to play with one of the new 70M-2's tonight.. don't recall the number.. but I was pleasantly surprised - they've finally integrated the EM2000 window with the rest of the FIRE computer. Not 100% sure I like how they're done it, but it's a good first step!! That annoying window always ...
Another fresh-painted unit, but check out the graphics on the long hood: it's a picture of a CN locomotive. A wide-cab. Painted on the side of a standard-cab. Go figure. http://railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=343374&nseq=0 I'll see your irony, and up you one more.. It's a decal of a GM locomo...
Don't the IC units have the EPIC 2 brakes? With the lil keypad in the middle and the screen where the gauges should be?
I've heard of all sorts of problems with the M2's... they're pretty much garbage IMHO. EMD should have stuck with the SD75i design... same power, less computer crap to break. And wow, does it break often!! Lately seems like all the cooling fans are seizing... I don't know how they're going to make a...
I was onboard 2314 yesterday.. the indicator lamp for the handbrake in the cab is new too.. nice touch, too bad you can't release it from the cab like some US units. That overhead LED cab light turns red in emergency.. very cool. And has the emergency light reset switch now like the latest 88/89xx's...
Word on Canadian Railway Observations is that CN paid $100,000 for each unit. That's a steal, even in parts! So what if a few eat it.. just as reliable as the rest of the poorly maintained fleet...
Can't see anything in that tiny pic (maybe I need a bigger monitor?)... but it looks like the automatic (train) brake is in release (which would make sense, charging the train). And the Independent (locomotive) brake is in apply... so the locomotive brakes are "set".. All the GE locomotive...
Your wording.. is so very eloquent :) Mechanical trades = no. Anything that is a "safety sensitive" position, ie. driving a locomotive; eg. labourer, conductor, supervisor (if required to become a conductor) = yes. And the testing is very good. 7 things are tested for.. Hard to pass if you...
Going to depend on what your vehicle is.. best if you contact a company that sells Hi Rail gear like this: http://www.mitchell-railgear.com/ and get a quote done.
It's going to be expensive though.. and if you get caught on rails that aren't yours to be on.. prepare for jail time
I'd put my money on it... with Tier emissions compliance going to be a big issue in the coming years... CN might be onto something here. You can't make an SD40-2 any better... but you can take a Dash-8 and stick EFI on it. I believe some of these ex-BNSF's and ex-UP's already have the EFI mod done.....
