Delano Track Re-activation???

Does anyone know when the line from Delano, PA will be re-activated to the coal plant. The rails/switches were replaced about a year ago and the coal plant's owner says he wants R&N to service it instead of trucks. I'd be something to see them clear that track of the 2' thick trees growing betwe...

No Sleepers to Tampa, FL???

by carajul ¦  Fri Jul 16, 2004 1:57 pm ¦  Forum: Amtrak ¦  Topic: No Sleepers to Tampa, FL??? ¦  Replies: 18 ¦  Views: 3599

I took the Sliver service train from Trenton to Tampa a few times back in the late 1990s and always had a viewliner sleeper train. I wanted to take the train again to Tampa to see the remodeled station but there are no sleepers to Tampa anymore. What's the deal? How can I get to Tampa, FL now direct?

I have a few pics of the 1970s that show LV trains using the CNJ mainline from Easton to A'town. Don't know why, since it was all duplicate trackage. The CNJ main now is solid forrest. Besides some very rotted ties you'd never even imaging a rr was there! Walk east of the CNJ Beth station...a wall o...

I now live in upstate NY but when I lived in NYC I applied for a job. Got thru the test and the physical part. They called me in Aug and said they'd call me for an interview in Sept but never did. Police jobs are good now. Good pay, full benefits too. It's getting to the point where you need to know...

I know it's sad to see the line go, but let's face it, the RR is there due to economics. No customers = no revenue = no reason to be there. If the E&N were still there today there really are no big customers left that would have supported the property tax and maint. If anyone can tell me where t...

Why Was Sayre Yard torn out?

I was surprised to see a recent photo of the Sayre, PA station and yard. Nothing but the 2 track main. Why/when was the yard torn out and where is the stuff classified now? Is there any more rail yards in the area?

The E&N was abandoned by CR in 1983 because the bridge over the Lehigh River was unsafe, as were the wooden bridges along the line. The bridge pillars would sway 3' when a train ran across. Even in the LVRR times the bridge was an operating headache. It dated back to the 1880s and was never buil...

Well in Milltown the old RRRR spur into the tire factory, abandoned since the early 1960s and half chopped up, has a brand new rubber crossing across Main St. I guess it's cheaper to fix the xing then tear it all out and dispose of it. Past Rt27 there are no customers. There are many spurs, but none...

I wasn't aware that the line was in use as late as 1972. There is no business/industry past Clyde Rd anymore. I know the area at the begining of the line near Jersey Ave station is still quite busy. From the late 1990s to 2001 the warehouse just past Clyde was active a few times/week. They also put ...

PRR Millstone Branch in NJ

I've noticed that for the past few months the PRR Millstone Branch that runs thru Franklin, NJ is rusty rails again. Back in the late 1990s CR refurbished the line (which as buried under 2' of brush) to serve a siding right at the end of the line just past Clyde Rd. Movements were usually at 12-2am....

There are some great old pics of the tower and Nesq Jct at http://www.gingerb.com Even in the 1960s the place was great looking. How all that trackage is nothing more than a single semi-rusty track today is sad. That's what happens when the coal biz went bust. The tower is privately owned now and th...

Why wasn't I hired at UP?

With all the talk to UP being short handed I thought I'd get a job with them for sure. Me and my buddy put our applications in at the same time. I have 5 years experience with a RR out east and am NORAC qualified. He has no experience at all. We both applied for conductor positions via the UP web si...

CNJ's Coplay Branch

Can anyone give me info on the CNJ Coplay branch which left the CNJ mainline at Northampton, PA? It crossed the Lehigh River, crossed the LVRR mainline, then connected to the Ironton RR. I think the bridge still stands.
